May 1, 2006 - Fiji

Well after a lovely stay back at Jackie's in Sydney on our last night and a gorgeous meal at the local Italian courtesy of Ellen, it was time to hit the airways again and board the plane to Fiji via New Zealand. We arrived late at night in Fiji in Nadi but we were welcomed in the traditional fashion as we got off the plane by singing and guitars and shell necklaces drapped around your neck along with shouts of BULA, (which means hello/welcome), which everyone shouts at you....they really are the nicest people I have ever met here and Fiji...

Apr 23, 2006 - NZ to Nadi FIJI

The short afternoon flight to Fiji was lovely with lots of free wine and great Fijian food. We landed to the welcoming temp of 30 degrees and the smiles returned to our faces at last. We got our free transfer to the gorgeous Nadi bay hotel and checked into our lovely room overlooking one of the pools. After some distress at my bank card (the bain of our lives) deciding to stop working and a trip around all 3 atms in Nadi in a goodwill taxi thanks to the fabulous porter Gabi I made the dreaded phone call home. Now for those of you who know...

Manta Ray Resort, Nanuya Balavu - Nadi Colin was not impressed after had to get up and go to the toilet in the middle of the night, only to discover in the morning that his back bitten by about 20 mosquitos! We all chilled out all morning as we were leaving at 2.30pm. Colin went out Kayaking with Chris and Phillipa to the island across the bay. Catamaran was a bit late and picked us up at about 3pm. Jens and Anna were on there again, also heading back to Nadi Bay. Also on the boat was some of the family from Sanawai Resort who were heading...

Mar 22, 2006 - Beachcomber Island - Day 1

We all - Colin, Nina, Ed, Holly, Katie, Jette, Anna, Jens (German) and Luke - got up early to get a bus from Nadi Bay to Denarau Port, where we caught the ferry to Beachcomber Island which took 30 minutes. Beachcomber the first of the little Mamanuca Islands to set up a resort for backpackers, its very small and you can walk round it in 5-10 minutes. The beach goes right round and there is a a small forest in the middle. as we got of the boat the first words said to us were "welcome to paradise". We checked in and were shown to the 84 bed...

Mar 21, 2006 - Feejee Experience - Day 4

Bus was leaving at 12 today (we all reckoned this was because Willie had a hangover!) so we had a bit of a chilled out morning. First we had breakfast, then Colin and Nina went kayaking and saw lots of small jelly fish. Nina then relaxed in a hammock whilst Colin went snorkelling, but there wasn't much to see. We drove along along the North coast to an Indian town called Ba, where we had an Indian for lunch. It was a pretty awful meal with manky, chewy chicken (this meal would come back to haunt us at a later time!). After lunch we drove...

Mar 16, 2006 - Nadi

Decided to stay at Nadi Bay for 2 more nights, to chill out by the pool before starting our Feejee Experience. Had breakfast with a girl from our dorm called Beanie, then spent all day by the pool. Had dinner in the resort and watched a little of the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony. We now had a private room with A/C so we went back to cool off.

Feb 28, 2006 - Fiji

I arrived into the heat and humidity of Fiji last night from New Zealand. Quite a shock coming from NZ I must say. When we got off the plane there were three or four men playing those little guitars and singing a welcoming song while we walked to customs. Nice welcome, can't say I have experienced that before. Once I made it through customs, which by the way if you are going to smuggle anything into a country, this is the country to do it, I think I could have had a twitching body in my luggage and they would have waived me through, I had...

Nadia's Travels...

Feb 7, 2006 - Nandi then soon - Australia

WHY AUSTRALIA? One of my biggest regrets in life was not getting on the plane in 1987 to visit my sisters, who at the time were living in Perth, Australia. That was after I talked my mom into taking me on what would have been the most incredible high school spring break ever (JFK-San Francisco-Hawaii- Sydney-Perth-Fiji-Los Angeles-Connecticut). I had an anxiety attack in JFK airport and wimped out at the gate. It occurred because I had recently been diagnosed with asthma, and prior to leaving my doctor put the fear of God in me by saying,...

Feb 4, 2006 - Posting from Loutaka, Fiji

Saturday, February 4, 2006 Posting from Lautoka, Fiji We had much better weather in Fiji than any earlier island. It was clear but hot and humid, as expected. We did go through quite a storm getting here though. After we left Pago Pago, we had about 12 hours of very rough weather. I don't think too many people go sick because there were still a lot of people at dinner and at the show. I think people are getting their sea legs (and I do see a lot of ear patches being worn and a lot of ginger being eaten at dinner). We also crossed the...

Norma's World Cruise

Jan 23, 2006 - Cast Away.

Well we've been castaway on a tropical archipelago, and I must say life is really awful. No, only joking. It's damned hot! 32 Degree's in the capital of Suva today (it was on the BBC world service). It's Gary's 24th today, so we're going on a sunset cruise thing for dinner. Been into Nadi town (pronounced Nandi?!) this morning for some lunch ( a very nice Curry including Popodoms, raitha, rice and our two curry's that worked out at about 10 English Pounds! Bargainous. There's lots of 'boys' around who try and drag you into their shops so...

Gone Gallivanting

Jan 20, 2006 - Nadi

NADI AIRPPORT Nadi International Airport has had a bunch of changes in a year. One is that all arriving passengers must hand in a new health form before reaching immigration (they take SARS seriously). I'm not sure if the "Senior Citizens/Parents With Infants" line is new, but this was the first time I noticed it. It sure is thoughtful. But the biggest change I found was in the domestic terminal, a short walk from the international terminal. They've renovated the bathrooms and the waiting area into a comfortable place to wait. Domestic...

Where's Johnny Jet?

Jan 6, 2006 - Fiji

Yesterday we arrived in Fiji. We are only going to be here for 2 nights. As we arrived into the airport there was 3 guys with guitars and Hawaiian shirts there to sing a song as we got off the plane. It was great. We got a pretty nice hostel right on the beach. We got the bus to Nadi town yesterday, it has a real Indian vibe, alot of Indians were sent here to work on the sugar cane plantations by the British when they ruled India. The bus we got to town was mad, it had no windows and was so ancient the driver controls looked like something...
