Sunday: Checking out of the hotel this morning, we had two armed guards on the bus with us and a convoy truckload of armed guards. El Fayyum, the "Garden of Egypt" is the largest oasis in Egypt. It's fed by the Nile through hundreds of water channels and this fertile soil allows wonderful vegetables to grow. We briefly stopped in town to see the water wheels which bring the Nile by canals into this oasis. Thousands of date trees, rice and all kinds of veggies are growing everywhere.
