Jul 21, 2016 - Last day!

Nearly got a tour in a glass bottomed boat. Ashley rang to book it for this afternoon and was told as customer numbers had dropped they were now doing only one tour a day. And guess what? It had just left!! So I have had a swim, taken a few more photos, I have lost at rummikub AGAIN. Might do better at backgammon later on. Going to a special restaurant tonight for farewell dinner. Lots of going out for meals but as Ashley pointed out, without alcohol you're paying about 5.00 a head. My cold is hanging around but not too...

Jul 20, 2016 - Around the canals. The Venice of Egypt.

Having slept through the night, gone back to bed and slept more then taken a trip on yet another Tucxi downtown to The Club ( a little restaurant with swimming pool, loads of seating and laying areas under trees or umbrellas. Spa massage and little art gallery and a sandy beach linking all to the lagoon) we had lunch, I slept again while Ashley and Karin went off to the bank. When they came back they had some cold tablets for me but more importantly they had learned to read Arabic numbers. The bank manager had said if you are going to...

Jul 19, 2016 - Beach food talk games

Last night we walked around mmarinas to a plaza with lots of restuarants. Went to a fish one. Ashley has to have fish and chips to find one that lives up to his childhood memory (dangerous that, is it ever as good?) He assures me freo was as good as the Greek guy at Scarborough. Mind you part of the joy of that one was eating them in the beach! But they were good! Anyway this one was way off so no more fish and chips at el gouna. had a better photo which will no doubt turn up. TG here are 3 double door/windows in lounge and two more in...

Jul 19, 2016 - More beach, food and games!

This is all over the place! Photos are from yesterday. Today another relaxed day. I managed to beat Ashley once at rummikub but he slaughtered me several times. Went for a swim. Christened new bathers. No wind so Ashley didn't kite surf. Photos are from yesterday. Had Indian for tea. Streets away from local Egyptian areas are fairly deserted.economic downturn hitting hard. I've managed to get my first dose of hay fever in at least 10years. It was good in the water.sneezing stopped and water much cooler than surface air. No tippy toes...

Jul 18, 2016 - down town el gouna

After all the surfing off to tea. have had 2 rides now in a Tucxi. (Hate automatic text predictor.didnt realise it was on.....wonder how often other weird changes have been made? Tucxi just became Gucci! ) Anyway you've seen them in Asia. Ashley karin and I could squeeze into back seat. One seat in front for the driver. No doors. There's even an Uber Tucxi! Loved the 'old' area. Loads of locals at one spot playing backgammon eating smoking from the Hookah. (I had seen one at the beach and thought it was for opium until Ashley said...

Jul 17, 2016 - Made it!!

Ashleys Email to his siblings after he had first sent them an email for my phone number, says it all! Did I tell you that my phone had suddenly decided it was sending emergency calls only. And receiving none?? Ashley has been working on it for some time sounding hopeful at present! Anyway back to his message. First one was "can someone send mums number can't find her at airport. " Then another message: Is OK we found her. Not in hurghada in Abu Dhabi! She is such a jet setter it's hard to know what continent she's on, let alone what country...

Dec 27, 2008 - Hurgada

Hurghada - A resort town hide out for cold-trapped Europeans. Hurghada also a vey liberal town in this predominantly muslim country. Diving and snorkling in the Red Sea is the the main attraction. In the evening we had a Galabayo night. A night that we all dressed up with local dresses. We all looked very much like Arabs.

Oct 23, 2007 - Hurghada

WEll here we are in this little resort town, which could be anywhere in the world really that is how none Egypt like it is, it's kind of disappointing cause we didn't come all this way to see a mexian resort. but what the hell it's really relaxing after the craziness of the cities we have seen. We will be here for approximately 14 hrs, then we will take the ferry at the ungodly hour of 2am for Sharm El Sheik on the other side of the red sea in the Saini Peninsula and the the bus to Dahab which is supposed to be world class resort town. It...
