Five hours by bus from Cairo led us to Nassar, our Bedouin guide and companion in the White and Black deserts. Our first question to him "Will we be warm enough at night?" "Insha'Allah, we try." Insha'Allah we were to hear many times in the ensuing three days. We spent 3 days and 2 nights in the the center of Egypt in the Sahara Desert, near the Bahariya Oasis. Dec 29, 2009 - Desert and oasis

The train ride from Luxor to Cairo was the same train we took already so it felt comfortable. The difference was that we were in the last car and not the first so it was really bumpy. I was awoken often by big bangs, hard stops and starts but in the morning felt refreshed. I asked each how they slept, Ben and Simon were fine, Lydia said she was terrified, as the breaking was almost throwing her off her bunk and she was out of bed five times to close the cupboards doors that had been shaken open and were banging between wall and ladder. Dec 15, 2008 - Three Days in Egypt's Western Desert

John We went to the desert the day before yesterday. It was very fun. Our tour guide was a man called Mahmoud. He was very nice. He came to take us to our hotel then we went on a walk and met him and he drove us to a place where we saw the sunset and agreed to go on a desert tour. The next day at 10 a.m. he came to pick us up and we said goodbye to the hotel. Then we went into Mahmoud’s truck and drove into the desert.
