Jul 30, 2018 - Viking Center

The sky was covered in clouds as we departed home today. We headed south west to the oldest town, Ribe. As we entered the gate we were met by three Norms or Faeries who make prediction of the the past, present and future. This heritage center presents authentic reconstructions of early Viking time 1300 years ago. The history is alive with volunteers roaming in period costumes, from babies to seniors, fromm black smith, falconer to lady of the house. We learned that people actually plan their holidays to participate for a week or 2, living...

Sep 16, 2014 - A return visit to Ribe

It was a lovely day so we decided we would do a return visit to Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark. We enjoyed once again a wander round this beautiful town, sitting to eat our lunch by the old harbour. We then took a short drive to the small island of Mandö. This involved crossing a causeway which is only passable at low tide and the tidal flow was rapid so we didn’t hang around too long before heading back.

Jun 19, 2006 - Ribe, Scandinavia's Oldest Town

Our last day with Phil's parents took us from Odense in Denmark to Hamburg in Germany, via Ribe, Scandinavia's oldest town. Ribe dates back to AD 869 and the entire old town is preserved with more than 100 buildings in the National Trust. Cobbled stone streets and half-timbered houses are what make this town so picturesque. After sampling our last Danishes & spending our last Kroner in the supermarket we finally left Scandinavia as we made for Hamburg. The campground was perfectly situated near the airport where we were dropping off Phil's...
