Aug 8, 2018 - Row Row Row your boat

A little later start today with the intentions to go to Carlsberg Brewery for the early afternoon. We decided to be techies and save 10% by booking the Hop on Hop Off bus for the next 2 days. Yeah we did it. We're like residents, as we manoeuvered our way to the number 5C bus to the main train station. Here we ask for the bus station and made it to the street, except the first red bus we hit, turned out to be another company that also runs a Hop On Hop Off bus!!! Grr. Over to the other side of the street. Doing great until we show our...

Aug 7, 2018 - Malmo, Sweden & Tivoli Gardens

Today we were up and out of the house on our way to catch the bus to the train station and then on to Carlsberg Brewery. At the station we thought we would also scope out where these FlexBusses were so we could go to Malmo, Sweden tomorrow. We had to go out the train station and down a few blocks to get there. At this point we decide we should go to Sweden today. After much frustration and walking from bus to bus, we learned that they only take credit cards, no cash and that we could buy a ticket but the first driver's phone/machine stopped...

Aug 6, 2018 - Winstar Breeze Embarking

We took a taxi to the port where the Windstar Breeze was waiting for us. Our luggage was put into a holding area under a tent as we waited to board at 1PM. The ship is nicely appointed and our suite (all cabins are suites) is spacious. After the mandatory safety drill, we watched the Windstar flags rise to the top of the masts as rousing sail away music filled the air and we headed out the harbor toward Norway. After a welcome aboard drink, we changed from our travel clothes into fresh dinner clothes (however, they are informal on...

Aug 5, 2018 - National Museum & Canal Boat & Olive Kitchen

Our last day in Copenhagen found us at the National Museum and on a canal boat tour. The museum traced the history of human activity in Scandinavia with bones and artifacts alike. On the upper floors, the development of civilization through the middle ages unfolded. We got tired and skipped later civilization and modern times. Copenhagen is a vast port city and a good way to see this is to take a canal boat - a one hour trip. We ducked under low bridges and out guide told us about the sights and activities among the way. That night we...

Aug 4, 2018 - Copenhagen Food Tour

Our food tour of Copenhagen was a short walk from the hotel. Maria, our guide and food expert along with ten others, greeted us at the appointed hour of 10:30AM. We were surprised to discover that two other couples in our food group were on the same Windstar Cruise with us! We began in the second hall of a two-building farmers’ market/hand-crafted fresh produce venue. We began with cheese with a tomato jam and a sip of Malus X - an apple wine (Denmark does not produce wine from grapes). Another plate of jams and candy from the small island...

Aug 3, 2018 - Traveling To Copenhagen Denmark

We had a very reasonable time to leave Rochester for our 2PM flight to Newark, NJ. However, there were thunder storms in Newark and our plane was forced to wait until ground control lifted the ground shutdown. That meant as we waited, our departing flight to Brussels could leave before we arrived in Newark. Fortunately, our flight was not cancelled. We landed in Newark just as our Brussels flight was taking off. We missed our European connection! Flying business class has more perks than just better seats. We passed the long line of...

Jul 21, 2018 - Copenhagen Flight and Kjellerup

July 21st This morning we had a 7am pick up time to the airport. Sooooo.... last night we set our alarms on our phones. I thought I heard Darlene say 6:45 am and set my phone. I must have been really tired as I was thinking that should give us 3/4 hour before breakfast at 6:30 and then meet the 7am pick up time. Apparently Darlene had said 5:45am. So at 6:20 it finally dawned on me that the time wouldn't work and lept out of bed to wake Darlene up as her 5:45 time did not go off. We found out that her phone was still on Vancouver time. We...

Jun 28, 2018 - Arrival

Our arrival in Copenhagen was uneventful after a short flight from Frankfurt Germany. We left Murphy's yesterday at about 9 AM. We picked up Dave and JoEllen and headed to San Jose. We met Marg and Drew at their home for a quick bloody before our ride to the airport. The flight to Frankfurt was on time and uneventful. At our layover in Frankfurt pretzels and sausages were a must. The flight to Copenhagen was barely over an hour. We arrived at 2:45 in the afternoon. We were to meet our tour guide at 3:30 but he was a no-show. We waited...

Jun 21, 2018 - Sea day

June 20, Tuesday Our room Stewart has a 2 month old son he has not seen in person.Tomorrow his contract is done and he will fly to Indonesia and hold his son for the first time. His smile was so huge today, it literally was ear to ear. It made us smile every time we saw him. Last night of this cruise, when we returned from the last show, acrobats, the hall was full of suitcases Lots of instructions were left for the back to back cruisers. Sea cards, immigration, lunch, and where not to be during boarding. We need to have laundry done...

Jun 19, 2018 - Mermaid Madness

June 19, Tuesday Copenhagen is the home of author Hans Cristian Anderson. He wrote many children’s story books and one of them was the Little Mermaid. Her bronze statue was actually the last thing we saw today and it ended with tragedy. Did you know that in the original book she dies? That her statue has been beheaded twice. Her arm removed and stolen but later recovered. I am happy Disney gave her a better life. Today on the inevitable bus tour we had a guide from Peru who married a Dane. Can I count Peru? The backs of several tourist...

Jun 18, 2018 - Sea day

June 18,Monday We had breakfast with a couple from Israel. Her name was Edna and his Oman. He was an emergency room doctor who recently retired. They were very forth coming with the questions I asked. I now have talked to and sat with people from 25 countries. It’s much like collecting license plates when you travel by car. Someone told me there was a couple from Yemen on the ship but I have not had contact with them. There was a back to back cruise meeting at 10 this morning and they served us mermosas. They answered questions about how...
