May 15, 2010 - Hong Kong day 2

Hong Kong was fun again today, lots of walking. I got the ferry across to HK island from Kowloon where I am staying and did a bit of a self guided walking tour past the amazing sky scrapers and old temples and weird bakery goods- I had a yummy green steamed bread roll for brekky! Then I rode the crazy tram that is on a 45 degree angle to see the view of the harbour but it has been really hazy/ cloudy since I got hhere so it was just a white cloud st the top! Some very impressive eagles were souing around in and out of the haze so that was...

Jun 2, 2009 - Hong Kong Madness

Goodness. So much has happened already and I've only offically been here for a day. The plane journey was a strange concept. It felt like a long waking nightmare, mostly due to a lack of space and being divorced from time. (Phone off, no mobile) In and out of sleep, not knowing where and when I was... Jesus they cram you in, in cattle class. But my fellow passengers were two sweet Chinese young men that could not speak a word of English. Only smiled. Amazing how much you can communicate via a smile. Especially when making them get up every...

Dec 4, 2008 - Hong Kong

by Chris Note: We haven't finished posting for our time in the Philippines. Still more to come - check back later! We arrived in Hong Kong on November 29th, and can we please say that Hong Kong has to be one of the coolest cities on Earth! From the super-efficient airport express train to high-energy, pedestrian filled sidewalks; cool shops and diverse & delicious eateries; multiple stunning skylines overlooking Victoria harbor; an ethnically diverse, cosmopolitan population ... we cannot stop saying "We love Hong Kong!" We've taken in the...

Jul 16, 2008 - Hong Kong

3 days in the USA Hostel Which turned into two days after an attack of the dreaded bed bugs. I had so many spots that for a while thought it had to be chicken pox but the symptoms didn't quite match. My third night was spent in the Regal Hotel at the airport where I soaked my spots in the bath and watched movies all day on the flat screen tv through the window in the bathroom. I am now in the Philippines and have been surviving on a farm without electricity for a few days and so unable to use the internet. I am now in Cebu until Sunday...

May 3, 2008 - Chungking Express

After saying goodbye to Gry and Rasmus, spending another day in Yangshuo, losing my boots and being lost in translation with a taxi driver, we're back, having endured a 15-hour bus-ride and a border crossing. Although we're still in China. But it doesn't feel like it. Chungking Mansions in Kowloon is like no other place I've been, a maze of low-quality guesthouses, fans, bleak, dirty tiles and people from ALL OVER. I've heard french, japanese, cantonese, mandarin, spanish, english and what I suppose was either Filipino or Macanese - And...

Jan 9, 2008 - Nei Ho from Hong Kong

Nei Ho, We only spent a few days in Hong Kong, mainly to get our Chinese Visa, which you need to travel anywhere in China outside of Hong Kong and Macau. While waiting for our Visa's, we were lucky enough to be in Hong Kong on the last day of the Hong Kong Toy and Game Fair. It is the largest such fair in Asia and the second largest in the World. In order to get into the fair for free, you had to fill out a form that had your business name, etc, on it. So now, Meipsy and I are Co-CEO's of our Educational Toy Distribution Company which we...

Sep 7, 2007 - Welcome to the Middle Kingdom

Dale and Evelyn drove us into the Vancouver area and we stayed one night with Carol before going to YVR for our flight. Once we were at the airport we met up with Matt and Deimi for dinner. Deimi, always the one with the camera wanted some self-portraits. We are laughing because she zoomed in so much that she only got a picture of my front teeth. Nicely done! We rented a room at the airport in hopes of getting at least a little sleep before the long haul. It was well worth it! Comfy beds, hot tub and no commute for the flight in the wee...
