May 24, 2015 - Hong Kong

We were up at about 8.30 today and headed out to find breakfast and where to catch the Big Red Bus that would take us all around Hong Kong. Unfortunately the weather is so humid outdoors and the buildings and vehicles are so extremely air-conditioned that when I excitedly went to take my first photos in Hong Kong my lens and the camera had condensation. I was so upset after all my lessons and classes that I couldn't try out my new skills. It was back to the hotel to drop the camera back and pick up Michael's "point and shoot". We caught the...

May 23, 2015 - Brisbane - Hong Kong

Day 1 off to Hong Kong We had an early start today. Up at 5.45 and we were on our way to the airport just after 6.30am. After breakfast with Mum and Dad and lots of hugs and a few tears (from me of course) we were on our way. We had a delayed departure of nearly an hour but it was well worth the wait. The food was absolutely beautiful and they had only just finished serving one meal before the next one was making its way around. We had a brief stop in Cairns and then we were off again to Hong Kong. Our flight made up so much time we landed...

May 23, 2015 - About time I put pen to paper

Well we've been in Canada for a week now and have been having an amazing time. But let me start at the beginning. When we arrived in Vancouver we found the man waiting to transfer us to the hotel in the middle of the city and we were barely in our room when John decided he wanted to go for a walk. I wasn't very keen on him going out on his own but after he promised he wouldn't turn any corners and he would only be half an hour I let him go. Obviously he came back safely or I wouldn't be calmly sitting here writing this. When I unpacked I...

May 14, 2015 - On our wayat last!!

I'm writing this sitting in the comfort of the Premium Lounge at Hong Kong airport keeping an eye on all the aircraft and grounds people scurrying around like mice - busy, busy, busy. This comfort is thanks to our fabulous travel agent Jill Murphy at Helloworld, The Range in Toowoomba. We wouldn't travel without her. We had a good flight Tmba to Hong Kong, both of us managed to get some sleep, but being fed a full meal at 1.00am was a bit much. This trip we are flying Premium Economy with Cathay Pacific and while it isn't Business class (we...

Apr 27, 2015 - Ready to return home

27 April 15, Aberdeen and the Hong Kong Park……… We caught the bus outside the Nathan Hotel (next door) to Aberdeen this morning. It used to be a nice picturesque spot but now it’s an industrial hub. We could not find the seafront or the floating restaurant so bussed it back to Kowloon. One thing you can’t say about Hong Kong is that it is flat and boring, the vista of high rise buildings clinging to near vertical hillsides never ceases to amaze us and the 970X route has obviously been chosen to show this side of HK off to best effect. Then...

Apr 26, 2015 - Last day In Hong kong

Today it was a very busy day. Left the hotel to IFC shopping, went to meet Cristiane and visited Chinese temple. We got 2 lions from the antiche shop. Matt had fun at the Chinese parquinho. Went up to the peak with astonishing view of hk. Had lovely rice paper roll with prawns. Went to get luggage in the hotel and then back to IFC to get the express train to the airport. Air Asia was a nightmare. Had to pay 100 used for 6 extra kilos. Arrival in Phuket next day. 3h40m flight

Apr 26, 2015 - Sunday, a day of rest

26 April 15 Sunday, maybe a picnic? Somewhere quite? Sounds good so we set forth to Central to take the tram to Kennedy Town. It’s all changed of course, as I remember the terminus was actually in a little park at the water’s edge but land has been reclaimed and the foreshore has been moved about 100M out so now the terminus is inland… None the less we found a nice spot that overlooked Hong Kong Harbour and sat down to enjoy the sea breeze and watch the locals go about their business. Popular for dogs here to, poodles seem to be the canine...

Apr 25, 2015 - ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day, Lest We Forget. The Service was at the Cenotaph at Central and looking at it on the internet there were a lot of Asian Faces in the crowd. Decided that we may get the size 13 shoes at the “factory outlet’ at Tung Chung (toong choong). It’s adjacent to the cable car station on Lantau Island. No doubt there are many factory outlets all over HK but we knew where this one is so took our chances on the MTR and only had to walk across the platform at Lai King to change lines to get there. Yes!!! They had US13 so bought Blake a pair....

Apr 24, 2015 - The No6X bus two years on

24 April 15 Woke up with a start today, it was 0900… Had over 10 hours sleep… Decided to head to Wan Chai electronics market to try and get the CB radio watches. Easy to find, at Wan Chai MTR station look for exit A4 but don’t go up the final stairs, there is a lift, face the rear of the lift and when it surfaces the Market is directly in front of you. We wandered around looking, plenty of CB radios but none in a watch format, plenty in HK on eBay though, and maybe I can pick up a pair. Decided that as it was by now nearly lunch time to...

Apr 23, 2015 - A restful day...

23 April 15 Woke at 8:00am today, performed all the usual ablutions and went down for breakfast. It seemed very strange not knowing anyone at breakfast, not hearing Kong’s laugh or seeing Felix’s beaming countenance and watching them herd us on the bus (like trained Kelpies) so we could be off on another day of adventure, with, no doubt, a “few steps” to keep us fit. I am just recovering from our trip, there were a few speedbumps enroute and we all learned a few tricks should we return to Vietnam or China but overall we both enjoyed the...

Apr 22, 2015 - Hong Kong, just for some R&R....

22 April 15 Felix got us to the airport in plenty of time and assisted with the ticketing, we bade him farewell and slipped behind the screen of security. Shades of Dads Army, when the German prisoner is demanding Pikes name and Mainwarring yells out "Don't tell him Pike", Carol had her name taken and written in a Chinese officers Book for having a very small pair of scissors in her firstaid kit. They did not see my scissors in my firstaid kit but wanted to see my scar. We boarded about 5 mins late and all went swimmingly till Captain...

Apr 19, 2015 - Hong Kong

Pete visited Hong Kong today and, although he didn't call, he did send many pictures from the Hong Kong Disneyland to his dad via What's App so we know he had a great time visiting there with a couple of the guys from the ship. Be watching for pictures in the next few days!
