A long two day drive on the PanAmerican Highway along untamed and seemingly infinite desert, brings us finally to the very funky town of San Pedro de Atacama. At 8,000 ft above sea level and the northern edge of the Salar de Atacama - it is Chile's largest salt flat and world┬Ęs driest zone. It is closely located near the Argentinian and Bolivian borders so consequently has a frontier feel.
