July 8 – Free Day – Visited a Scottish Highland Village We traveled south to Iona, NS to visit an authentic early Scottish Highland Village. Sites offered a visit to houses of the time starting in Scotland on the Isle of Barra and then log houses first built by the settlers in the 1800’s. The replica of a blockhouse made of large rocks gave the impression of the life in Scotland before the emigration to North America. Another great riding day Saturday, even though it got up to 86 degrees – that is the warmest it has been since we got up north! It was definitely one of those “it is all about the ride, not the destination” days, since we had no destination at all, other than seeing as much of the lake as possible. We rode around the shorelines of some of Bas D’Or Lake, which is made of many segments and takes up a good bit of the eastern part of Cape Breton Island.
