Monday 9/22/08 driving to Grand Pre, NS There was a little frost this morning. It was cool most of the day but finally warming up to 67 degrees by late afternoon. We arrived in Grand Pre around 3:30pm. The camp ground has no internet. Grand Pre is in the heart of farming country located on the Bay of Fundy. There are a lot of dikes that reclaimed the land from the sea. The dikes were originally built by the Acadian people, originally emigrating from France in the early 1700s they fell victim to the British in the on going war between the...

Aug 26, 2008 - Tuesday, Grand Pre, NS (77 miles)

Driving toward Grand Pre today we drove in a valley between two mountain ranges and started to see vegetable and fruit farms. A very different look of Nova Scotia than we have been seeing. After arriving in Grand Pre, and getting set up at the campground, we spent the afternoon visiting several of the wineries in the area. In all of Nova Scotia there are only nine wineries, and five are in the Grand Pre area. We had time to visit three, and a cheese factory. To no surprise, we bought wine and cheese along the way. Sep 18, 2007 - The Tidal Bore

Monday, September 17 We left Spencer's Island on Monday, drove to Truro through some construction and much rural farmland, and found a supermarket! From there we decided to try to see the tidal bore, and ended up just in time at at lovely private campground on the Shubenacadie River. The campground owner said that the bore would arrive in ten minutes, so she had us get into her 4-wheel drive truck and drove us down a very muddy and bumpy road to the viewing point above the river. This phenomena only happens in a few places in the world....
