I arrived in Santa Cruz today, the airport was tiny and didn't have an ATM, or at least not that I could see, so I changed Chilean pesos (the only money I had with me) worth about Australian $135 and when I got to my hostel realised that I'd been ripped off about $50 Australian, lesson learned, next time that happens I'll just make the taxi stop by an ATM. After reading the DFAT information on Sth Am I was terrified of taking a taxi but I had no choice so I asked a fellow passenger if the taxi's were fine, because I don't know how to say...

Nov 14, 2007 - Santa Cruz Wednesday

Due to a transport work stoppage (paro en espanol) the town is very quiet today. There are no microbuses, taxis, long distance buses, nor airplanes going anywhere today. We strolled around the even more tranquil than usual plaza and finally settled at Irish Bar. We met the owner Martin, an Irishman married to a Bolivian, and he told of about the few expats who live in Santa Cruz. He quoted some very low real estate prices and said he enjoyed living here.
