arrived in Uyuni early afternoon and checked a Salar-tour with Tonito Tours for the next morning. Uyuni in Southwestern Bolivia is in the country's most remote highland, a sleepy town and cold... left Uyuni for the Salar tour (US$ 80,-)round 11 am. With my travel companions Alison (California) and her husband Duncan (England) and her brother Phil. Luckily we were only 4 and had plenty of space in the heavily used Landrover that was driven by Pedro, the meals were prepared by Juana. Our first stop was the train cemetary close to Uyuni then...

Jul 4, 2005 - San Perdo to Uyuni

After spending about an hour at San Pedro getting our passports stamped we headed for the Bolivian border - climbing 2000mtrs in an hour. When we arrived I expected somewhere to change money, maybe a cafe, but it was literally a hut in the middle of nowhere. They had decided the day before that from now one people would have to pay about $2 to cross the border. However, they wouldn't except my dollars only Bolivianos. So I found someone to borrow money off and then found out that there were no shops until Uyuni! I hoped they gave us enough...
