Well, as I said in my last entry, I have headed down to Villa Tunari in the Bolivian Jungle to work with animals. So far (today was my fourth day working) everything has gone really well. I started working with birds (parrots, Macaws, jungle turkeys and raptors). This, I did for two days (I was expecting to do this for the entirety of my stay because the park doesn't accept people "chopping and changing"). Aug 1, 2005 - Bolivia : Villa Tunari - Animal Refuge Project
Our first day of work and we were allocated to the upper aviary which housed Macaws, Parrots, a turkey and a couple of tortoises. Most volunteers want to work with cats or monkeys so the birds are normally a stop gap until spaces are available elsewhere. We asked to stay with the birds though as it looked less physical than the cats and cleaner than working with the monkeys. May 5, 2005 - Parque Machia Animal Park
Fabien and I left Puerto Villarroel a bit disappointed; we both had our hearts set on sailing to Trinidad. Fabien's next plan was to move on to Cochabamba, but he said he'd go to the next town with me to visit an animal park there. I was thrilled; it was nice having a Spanish-speaking traveling companion. My guidebook had a one-line mention of this animal park, and frankly, I didn't pay any attention to it.
