Nov 11, 2008 - Rememberance Day. Up to Arthur's Seat

Drove in here to the Mornington Peninsula. Went up to Arthur's seat and took a bit of a walk in a garden with some lovely sculptures of Aboriginal people in wood. Arthur's seat was pretty high - not great to take the van up - but once up we saw some great views of Melbourne. Could look out onto Bass Strait in the direction of Tasmania (which Joel has taken to calling Antartica for some unknown reason); could also see Mount Macedon and the Dandenongs. Sylvia's Comments. Morning dawned and with it a lovely view over Port Phillip Bay and in the distance the skyline of Melbourne. The city of Melbourne is protected by two Peninsulas', the Bellairne Peninsula, and the Mornington Peninsula, and the opening to the bay is known as The Heads. This is where the Bay opens out into the Bass Straight across The Rip, when we were sailing to Tasmania this is the spot where I decided it was going to be a rough crossing and headed for my bed.
