Jan 13, 2019 - House-sit 3

House-sit 3 7 January A beautiful morning, warm and pleasant. Cats had been in during the night to feed. Cricket in Sydney delayed due to rain. Arranged to meet with Chris and Jan at a cafe near Warrandyte for lunch. Very pleasant lunch and good to catch up with Chris and Jan who were just about to move back into their house in Warrandyte after two years letting it while they travelled. The afternoon seemed to just drift by and before long it was dinner time then bed. Lovely day. 8 January Woken early I went for a swim; beautiful morning,...

Jan 6, 2019 - House-sit 2

The House-sit 2 1 January Slow start to the day, but it was a beautiful morning so we decided to revisit the Dandenong Ranges. An easy drive, about 5 minutes to the start of the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road which slowly climbs and winds through very tall eucalypts (eucalyptus regnans, called mountain ash by the first settlers!) past small villages and houses to the William Ricketts Sanctuary. Jan 2, 2019 - Christmas and New Year

Christmas/New Year 24 December Totally relaxing afternoon; it was hot. Lots of iced water. Hung out some laundry and it was crisp within half and hour. Watched some tv - Australia’s ‘Hidden Islands’; Kangaroo Island and Lady Elliott Island, both of which we have been to, so a nice catch-up. Bed. 25 December - Happy Christmas! Panettone and buck’s fizz, packed up the gravad lax Ruth had made, plus some wine, then off to the station to use the train system to get to John and Janets in Kensington. A bit of a bump at a roundabout near the...

Dec 23, 2018 - The House-sit 1

The House-sit 1 19 December Another good night - no noisy birds, though there was a party not far away that carried on till late. Emily was even later than us! We left her to finish her packing and drove to the nearby Eastland Shopping Centre. It is absolutely huge, took ten minutes to find a parking space and there were so many shops. Ruth managed to find a few items of clothing and I got some new shorts as mine were now showing signs of being worn almost continually this trip (and the last trip too!). A bit of food shopping (including...

Jan 14, 2007 - Interregnum

Interregnum - what a lovely word - I have never even come close to an excuse to use it before - and I think it now fits well with this part of the memoirs, when the trip around Oz is put on hold while we enjoy the delights of a new grandson. Babe was born in Sep. By the end of Oct both Joy and I were feeling the need for some R & R. We had a commitment in mid Nov and then planned an escape. Sally's principal bridesmaid was getting married and we were invited. Lovely wedding in Warburton (Sally was principal attendant), we stayed the night...
