Mar 6, 2020 - Day 41 to Burra ......UPDATE NOTES
Hi All, Arriving at Tailem Bend meant the arrival of S.A. weather. Cold winds, cold mornings about 10 degrees and generally for us soft Queenslanders cold miserable weather. Generally the maximums here are the minimums at home. But we survived and again started our endeavors of seeing as many silos as we could. Here for 2 days we had time to visit the 2 local silos before making tracks north to the Barossa Valley. The Barossa Valley is probably one of the most famous wine growing regions of Australia famous especially for the Shiraz...

Mar 1, 2020 - Day 36 to Tailem Bend, SA
Hi All, From Benalla we have moved north about an hour to Yarrawonga on the mighty Murray River, a few days there resting, shopping and to get a few repairs organised before lunching with golfing, mates who were down for a golfing trip and then heading off to see more silos. We also did a lunch cruise in an old steamer on Lake Mulwala, a wetland created by the weir built at Yarrawonga n the Murray, very relaxing. The driving throughout the trip especially in north western Victoria, is taking us through small back roads and though immense...

Goodbye Australia Day 129 Beach and Craft Beers The morning is spent relaxing in the garden by the pool (it is Saturday after all) and the weather has improved again. After breakfast we pile into the car to head for the beach. Arya is coming along so we go in our hire car which has a little bit more room. We are heading once again to Fleurieu Peninsula, but not as far south as Port Willunga. The beach is Southport at Port Noarlunga on the Onkaparinga River. Once parked we are rewarded by fantastic views of the estuary, sand dunes and sea....

Staying at the Beach Day 126 The Beach Mark and I spend the morning sitting by the pool arranging our shifts at Glastonbury via email, this also includes a health and safety test (some very strange questions concerning rubbish). Arya follows me every time I go into the house but then wants to be let back out when I return. I’m growing quite fond of this little French Bulldog. Today we are driving to the Gulf St Vincent to stay at the beach for two nights. We are staying in Grange by the Jetty and the historic Grange Hotel. It takes about 45...

Home from Home Day 124 Driving to Adelaide After a good night’s sleep, I wake to a beautiful day, the sky is blue and it is going to be hot. Mark is already up and has put the washing in the machine and gets breakfast and coffee sorted. After eating we shower and decide to take a walk around the bush trail whilst the washing dries on the line. Mark has told us he has seen kangaroos on the edge of the trees this morning, but as he is always telling tall tales Marcus and I are unsure whether we should believe him. Following the track, we come...

Glamping in Wine Country Day 123 Our journey today will take us across the border into South Australia. We could continue along the coast through Robe but decide to take the route inland through Penola and the Coonawarra wine region. Before setting off we spend a couple of hours in Port Fairy exploring the coastline and the small town centre. Leaving Seacombe House we drive the short distance to Ocean Drive on the coast where the sand is golden and the waves of the Southern Ocean crash against the rocks and the beach. Driving further we...

Oct 20, 2019 - A day in Hahndorf
So this morning............due to the amount of drugs I took last night and the bed being super comfortable we did not rise until 9.00am today!! So shower, coffee (as they have a pod machine here) and off we trek to catch the tram into town then the bus to Hahndorf. Dave loves catching buses so was excited about the trip. The bus trip to Hahndorf took just shy of an hour but winded it's way through all the little towns in the hills and was just beautiful - well worth doing if you ask me. We arrive in Hahndorf - and Coz just for you - there...

Oct 19, 2019 - Day 4 of The Ghan
Oh dear the last morning on the train......however not the best night of sleep due to the rough track in South Australia and the stopping and starting all night. However would not change anything as the trip has exceeded our expectations. So we do eventually get up and moving and make our way to the restaurant for Brunch at about 8.30am. We are sat at a table with a couple we have eaten with before so it was really lovely having the final meal with them. Now brunch......so many adorable decisions - but I end up having the gammon with bubble...

Oct 18, 2019 - Day 3 of The Ghan
Well hello sunrise over South Australia - nice to see you. The desert here is more barron than the Northern Territory and appears to be a lot flater just saying. So gorgeous waking up to this from your window - yes I definately think I could live this lifestyle. Fabulous and I don't mind waking up before 6.30am either - just beautiful. So we freshen up and sort ourselves out and go down for breakfast. Today I had baked eggs - OMG this could be my new favourite dish. Was amazing. We had breakfast with another couple we had met before for...

Nov 25, 2018 - Mount Barker
Mount Barker 23 November A wet and windy morning, Ruth started on family tree research and then everyone was hooked. Paul produced a book of old photos collated by cousin Peter; fascinating. Out to the supermarket for a few things, lunch, dinner. The day seemed to fly by although we did manage to get some washing done and dried between showers. New to the household, a ‘ragdoll’ kitten, charging around and causing great amusement. 24 November Another lazy start to the day, more family research, then out to Hahndorf for a wander. Ruth bough a...

Nov 22, 2018 - Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island 19 November Up with the sun again, bloody corellas! There is a large flock or should I say cacophony, of these very pretty but extremely noisy birds. Sulphur- crested cockatoos and crimson corellas all added to the noise! A kangaroo bounded across the field below our site and a couple of emus tried to find a way over/past the fence surrounding the site. Great view of Kangaroo Island in the early morning sun. Strong winds, but now from the north - hot and dry, and cloud was building, as forecast. Breakfasted, eating the last...
