Sep 22, 2006 - Town of 1770

Arrived in the most gorgeous hostel i've stayed in yet - cool banana's and within about 5 minutes I said...'oooh i like it here', very very chilled out, kinda reminds me of the thai atmosphere and so refreshingly clean! Can see me getting stuck here, everyone is so friendly and it's just such a welcome break from the hectic commercialisation of the east coast that i've seen so far! There are only about 100 backpacker beds in this town apparently, compared to Airlie beach of about 3,500 and Cairns of 2,500 so yeah, much less developed and...

Jun 25, 2006 - Yeppoon to Pearl Bay

We left Yeppoon on a beautiful morning, so lovely that we were even able to sunbake as we traveled along. The seas were flat and the wind was light and the day was becoming very warm. This was sailing! We even sighted a brown Booby Bird early on, which we had never seen before. But within a couple of hours the seas darkened and began to pick up, and it became colder. So much so, that before long we were back into our warmer gear and navigating at the cockpit once again. We had planned to travel to Pearl Bay, which we had heard was a...

Mar 13, 2006 - Roadtrip - Late Drive back to Rockhampton

The pics for this entry show the reason for the late drive back - fab night out in Airlie peeps:) As we didn't make it to bed until 5am we left very late and drove to Rockhampton feeling shabby the whole way. We went for a late swim and parked in a cute rest area just outside in order to recover before out trip to Bundy the next day.

Dec 4, 2005 - Bundaberg

Feb 13, 2005 - Town of 1770

A curious thing about travelling around is that one place you love someone else just doesn't get and so it was with the Town of 1770. Quite a few folk had told what a great little chilled out place it was and how they'd had a great time there. The best advice is always from people you meet so we duly headed to 1770 to see what all the fuss is about. Hmmm not really sure to be honest, yes it is very chilled out with some undoubtedly lovely beaches, but there didn't really seem to be much of a buzz about the place. Maybe it was cos the...

Jan 20, 2005 - Bailing Out

One of the things I haven't mentioned over the last few days is that I've been agonising over, but failing to make a decision about, whether to continue with the sailing course when it starts up again today. After much thought, and a largely sleepless night last night I've decided not to carry on, which I don't feel that great about, but which I'm hoping is the right decision, even if it does mean a large chunk of cash wasted. The main problem has been trying to come to terms with the climate up here in the tropics - the sunshine during the...
