This was my second visit to Gladstone and both time I have marvelled at how wonderful the environment is with it's waterways and mountains in the distance. However, the extensive industrialisation particularly along the shores of the massive harbour ruins the overall effect. The town very much caters for the workers, with every cafe and restaurant offering huge steaks; presumably for large appetites. This is one town where the retirees have not settled, yet it has everything that they would want. There is plenty of choice in places to go on...

Jul 24, 2012 - Smooth Sailing

Vicky & Anthony were our hosts aboard the Grace, a 40 foot yacht. We sailed out from Rosslyn Bay Marina, the largest marina in northern Queensland. For this 3 day cruise around the Keppel Islands, our mates were two 50 + men. At times the sailing was lively (this means sort of on our side) and the ocean was “lumpy”. At other times it was calm & lovely. I wore my jumper (AKA hoody) most of the time since the breezes were brisk and the temperature about 20.
