Nov 17, 2006 - 1770 (it's the name of a town, honest!)

17th Nov - Left Finch Hatton at 8am and after a quick detour to BCF in Mackay to sort out our faulty tent we got back on the highway. Finally arrived in 1770 just before sunset which was a good job as the sunset was absolutely stunning! Went to 1770's only eaterie for dinner (Saltwater cafe)and then all flaked out! 18th Nov - We were hoping to schedule a trip out to the beautiful Lady Musgrove island tomorrow but unfortunately it was fully booked and we weren't going to swim! Went for a look around Agnes Water (1770's big sister) and then...

Aug 7, 2006 - 1770

Apr 11, 2006 - Hervey Bay - ROCKHAMPTON 'beef capital'

Decided that as we are out of money we can't wait around in Hervey Bay and do a trip to Fraser Island so set off north early in the morning. Stopped by the side of the highway past a town called Gin-Gin only to have another car pull up to say he'd picked up a hitchhiker that was going in our direction and so could we take him to the next town. Hitchiker want3d a life all the way to Cairns thouygh or as far as we were going today. He turned out to be a bit odd. Was full of rubbish and had no money supposidly so didn't give us any for petrol....

Jun 10, 2005 - Town of 1770

Welcome to the middle of nowhere. I hardly slept at all on the bus last night. The greyhound dropped us off in the middle of a field and a minibus took us to Cool Bananas - the hostel in the village 1770 is where Captain Cook landed in..1770 and currently has only about 90 people living there. The hostel gave us a lift around the numerous beaches in the morning - its all undeveloped with no buildings in sight as its heritage listed and the few wooden sheds that are dotted about are worth millions. Cool Bananas is a model hostel. Its not...

Jan 21, 2005 - Some thoughts on art

A shorter drive by far today, so I was able to stop off in Rockhampton on the way back down for a wander around the art gallery. The ground floor was taken up with entrants in some recent competition, a few of which were OK but most of them were pretty dire. Normally a lot of modern, abstract art leaves me cold but I usually take the view that it's just not my cup of tea, art means different things to different people, etc etc. I don't care how expressive or symbolic this stuff was supposed to be, however - it was just rubbish. Perfectly...
