Jul 30, 2006 - Kroombit Cattle Station to Airlie Beach

The drive of death occurred today. To reach Airlie beach, the next stop on the east coast we were forced to endure an 11 hour bus ride. We left at 7:30 am and drove north through stops like Raglan, Rockhampton and MacKay. The ride was long and we only got to watch one crappy movie before the DVD player decided to crap out. The bus ride was brutal because I was the old man on the bus and the attitudes and behaviour of some of the other passengers ended up with me opening my mouth and then having most of the people hate me for the rest of the...

Jul 26, 2006 - Airlie Beach

Jul 1, 2006 - Airlie Beach and the WhEtsundays!!!

Hi to all...thanks for your messages, really great to log in after a few days to find them. We are now sat in a Global Gossip in Airlie Beach having come back from the 3day 2 night Whitsunday trip yesterday. The journey between Magnetic Island and Airlie Beach was fine (except for the fact that we were thrown out of the Greyhound for 45 minutes to sit in a petrol station - not the best fun - although Em did get overly excited about finding "Nerds" - remember those sweets in a box with 2 flavours!!! Haven't had them in ages!!!) So we arrived...

Apr 20, 2006 - Airle Beach, Barrier Reef and Diving

Up early Thursday in the attempt to get ourselves on a PADI dive course today. The PADI 4 day dive courses start on a Thursday and run over the weekend. Out of luck however, all booked up. Aaaah. Managed to do a bit of juggling coercing etc and arranged one for the next day. One of the local dive instructors is going to squeeze us in. It's going to be a 3 day course though. Yipee, we're going diving tomorrow. Today, we need to get dive certs. In Australia he law is that you need to be certified by a GP to be "fit for diving". So lots of...

Apr 20, 2006 - Airlie Beach

Warm Weather at last... now this is what Australia is supposed to be like!!!! I felt like I was stepping off the plane into tropical paraside, palm tress, humidity and beautiful weather, it was great. We had to walk off the plane onto teh tarmat or whatever it is called like you do in Cuba, and all of our luggae was brought out on a cart which we all had to sift through. No boarding docks or luggage racks here! As great as the weather was, anyone would have a hard time focusing on anything other than the giant bugs. Seriously, they were as...

Apr 9, 2006 - Australia - Brisbane and Whitsundays

In Brisbane we met up with our friends Andre and Hielke who happened to be in the neighbourhood. It was great fun seeing them and catching up with the news from Amsterdam and all our friends home. Andre looked a bit worn down from partying as hard as all the 18 year old backpackers along Australia's east (booze) coast for 3 weeks. Hielke was wearing him down even more because he had only 1 week off from work to experience holidaying in Australia! Hielke knew a friend in Brisbane and before we knew it we were all at her parent's house having...

Feb 5, 2006 - Arlie Beach & Whitsundays

Lige ud...

Nov 1, 2005 - The Race That Stops a Nation

I'm travelling today and kind of wish I wasn't or at leats not until later. It's Melbourne Cup Day. This is the biggest horse race that Oz has and the entire country gets set for this party. Its actually a holiday in Melbourne because nobody would come to work anyway. And while I ma miles away from Melbourne the madness abounds. As I ride the train from Surfers to Brisbane where I'll be catching a plane for Airlie Beach I am met by a mozaic of fellow travellers making there way to the airport and debutants and well-to-do's dressed in their...

Here we go...

Jul 31, 2005 - Whitsundays

The Whitsundays are a group of Islands just off the coast of Airlie Beach. It is a pretty famous spot for sailing trips. My tour group spent three nights and two days here. The first night they had a pool tourney, which was alright. I played, and I suck so I didn't make it too far. The next day it rained the whole day. It didn't just rain, it poured. So going outside wasn't pretty much a no. But the resort was good at organizing a few activites so we didn't get bored. I played in a black jack tourney, and then in another pool tourney - this...

Jul 30, 2005 - Australia 2 / New England Plateau - Brisbane - Fraser Isl. - Whitsundays

Jul 22, 2005 - Back on dry land

Well. Thank God we're alive! That boat got very choppy at times! It really was a shame that the weather was crap, but in a way we're kind of pleased, because we got to see a very different Whitsundays - more dramatic and exciting! I think it was all well worth it. We made loads of friends and the food was great! The various journeys on the boat were a bit hair-raising, with it being pushed and buffeted around by the sea... A few people cried because they were scared and others seems to be a little green in the face! It's a shame that the...
