It was quite a cool morning when we left Cairns but a lovely sunny day. We got away early, about 9ish,and so got to Babinda, which is only 65 kms away, about 10:00. We aimed to be early in order to get a spot in the free camp on the river at Babinda and we had heard it was very popular. It is quite full here by afternoon but we were lucky and got a spot looking over beautiful rainforest beside a stream to our right front and a green grassy park area to our left front, with the ammenities 30m behind us. Jan 13, 2014 - Wonga to Babinda

Monday 13th January We left Wonga around 10am, after doing a load of washing and trying to pack the van up in the rain (getting sick of this rain !!)Headed off through Mossman and Cairns and had a look at a couple of free camps along the way.We stopped at Ellis Beach and noticed one of the Stinger enclosures so you can swim without being stung. Oct 14, 2004 - Got the Hollrungia!

Well, if all the collecting was this easy, I'd have it made. The roads here are easy to use and the hollrungia is common! Ok, not common, but we found them, and it wasn't hard! I cant believe it but I took an airlift (like a ski lift) to the top of mount bellenden ker. It went slowly and took about 30 minutes to get to the top. We were at least 100 meters in the air for most of it. I have some great photos of the trees which I'll try to put up soon. Anyway, I was very scared, but I managed not to throw up.
