Apr 30, 2013 - Warning! Bike riding may be a health hazard.

April 30 - May 3 After a fabulous 3 days sailing the Whitsundays we decided to check out the bicentennial bike track into Airlie before brekkie. Great idea until about 1/2 a km from our van park on the way back Cazza toppled over the handlebars on a rough patch and ended up 4 days in hospital with a dislocated left elbow. 2 operations later and an Ambo ride from Proserpine Hospital to Mackey Hospital they let her out with a hinge brace on her arm, and copious amounts of anti-biotics and pain medication. Davo drove the van to Black Beach...

Apr 27, 2013 - Airlie Beach

April 25 - 29 We arrived at Airlie Beach, Whitsunday Adventure Big 4 caravan park at about 2.30pm after our first big drive of almost 800 km. During the drive Cazza sewed together her first 9 granny squares. After setting up we spent the afternoon relaxing at the resort pool. We were lucky enough to book onto a 2 night luxury sailing trip on a catamaran called the 'Whitsunday Getaway'. With a 2 person crew, 3 other couples and a 20 - 30 km Sth/Est wind blowing, we had a fantastic experience. We had a private cabin with queen bed and...

Mar 14, 2013 - Whitsundays Boat trip

We left Airlie beach at 2.40 on the boat New Horizon, our new home for teh next few days. Our group was interesting... Just an odd bunch of people all thrown together but the 4 of us, Niamh Frances DAnielle and Julia had eachohther ! The next morning was an early start, promised with bacon and eggs (which was a LIE !) but did the job of getting us up bright and early. Our first stop was Whitehaven beach the 3rd most photographed place in Oz. White sand, blue sea, well known for being a natural exfoliant and teeth whitener. The sand is...

Mar 13, 2013 - Whitsundays

On our first day arriving for the Whitsunday trip we wandered around the Airlie town and discovered the only beach safe for swimming to avoid the jellyfish was closed but a nice old couple told us we were fine to venture down as long as we were careful on the sand. So, we ended up having the beach all day to ourselves. Sun, sea and sand and relaxing day in preparation for the boat trip the next day.

Jan 14, 2013 - The Whitsundays - We're in Paradise!

The journey from Townsville to Airlie Beach was a long 4 hours and made even longer as the air conditioning above my head decided to give way and was woken by a pleasant afternoon nap to a shower which everyone was laughing at my expense, only this would happen to me! When we arrived in Airlie beach, it was a like a nice seaside town with lots of cool surfer shops and bars. It was a long walk from the bus station to our hostel, Nomads, luckily we had a nice large, air conditioned room – bliss we threw our bags down and just collapsed on the...

Oct 16, 2012 - Airlie Beach & Daydream Is

Airlie Beach - Daydream Island 16 - 22 October 2012 After saying goodbye to Gail & Peter in Townsville we headed south for Airlie Beach where we met up with Sean’s best mate “Knighty” who was working as 1st Mate on “Cruise Whitsundays”. Knighty organised for us to go out to the Great Barrier Reef for another fantastic day of snorkelling & to our delight managed to get a few days off work to join us on the cruise and overnight on Daydream Island. We spent 5 glorious days on Daydream where we snorkelled, sailed, played mini golf, went to...

Oct 6, 2012 - Timeout in airlie beach

Had a great few days in airlie beach. Very surprised to see how quiet the caravan park was given it was the end of school holidays. Went to the markets on Saturday and had a look around. Sunday of course was Bathurst so we tested out the caravan air con and relaxed. Was great to catch up on some sleep too! Highlight Of airlie beach was watching joshies confidence grow in the pool. He is really loving the water. Marc also couldn't resist being a big boy and having a go on the water slide. The marine and view also around airlie beach is also...

Oct 4, 2012 - Airlie Beach...back on the east coast.

Airlie Beach hadn't changed very much since our last visit during our honeymoon. The water and beach are still as pretty as ever only this time we were able to compare it with our own Mooloolaba Beach and felt where we now live is the pick. Our hotel was perfectly placed opposite the beach so we enjoyed a good walk around that area and of course, the shops. We were a little too tired to do much more so hit the sack after an Italian dinner near the beach. Original thoughts of staying an extra night faded in favour of getting home a day...

Sep 23, 2012 - Snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef

The trip to Airlie Beach took a good 6 hours. It is north of Yeppoon. We stopped for a break and bought homemade Lamingtons - an Australian treat made from sponge cake rolled in thin chocolate icing then coconut. Yummy! We passed through McKay - lots of sugar cane grown around here and it is all stages from new plants to fully ripe and being harvested. The cane growers have their own train system with tiny little locomotives and really small gauge rail. For supper we went to Fish Divine which was not so divine. Absolutely everything was...

Sep 13, 2012 - Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach has provided us with both extremes of weather within 24hrs. Heater on through the night and fan through the day. No rain though so its a good day! The caravan park is located only 5kms from the Airlie Beach main hub and close to Shute Harbour - the departure for the Whitsunday islands. Whilst visiting Shute Harbour, Ben and Bridget collected more rocks. We then headed into Airlie Beach, walked the street, enjoyed a chiller and visited the man made lagoon which is built behind the main street, overlooking the beautiful waters to...

Sep 12, 2012 - Paronella Park to Airlie Beach

After packing away the wet tent we made our way to Kurrimine Beach - famous for its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef (not that its visible from the coastline) and stopped at the local Murdering Point Winery. On our way to Townsville, we were surprised by how mountainous the drive was and the increase of banana planatations and sugar cane crops. The smell that comes from the sugar cane mills is certainly unique - almost molasses like. Unless you are a horse its slightly overwhelming! Townsville is another big city but has a nice feel to...
