Dec 1, 2017 - Day 5 - Adelaide to Narrandera
It rain over night and as we knew forecast were not good. So we wore the rain gears, packed the bikes and we point the forks east. Was not raining as we left, but the roads were still wet and the sky overcasted. We took off on the Adelaide countryside hills, following a stunning winding road climbing and descending lots of nice hills and valleys. By the time we reached the M1 was raining, but at 110 its easy to keep your visor clean and was no problem. Just made the mistake of wearing normal gloves and the water together with the fresh...

Nov 29, 2017 - Tasmania Trip 2017
We got to the Spirit of Tasmania 4pm yesterday, 4.30pm were taken through Quarantine. The guy said it is more about checking for stowaways than checking for fruit and veges. Then we were directed to a large parking area, where we sat in the hot sun, until boarding the boat at 6.45pm. The sail over was really smooth, I took a sea sick tablet, and didn’t look out of the window of our cabin, we both slept well. At 6.30am we drove off the boat. Then it was a case of following the navigator very carefully through Melbourne. All went well. We...

May 10, 2017 - 10th May, 2017. Temora to Ardlethan, near Narrandera
10/5/2017. Temora to Ardlethan Another cold night. We went to a heritage town called Ariah Park, which is about 37km from Temora. It was interesting, but also a little disappointing. The brochures promised so much, but like many of these country towns, so many of the businesses have closed down. We looked through their small museum, which was good, and chatted to a friendly lady in the second-hand shop. There are dozens of pepper trees planted down the centre of the main street, which looked lovely. There is a good low cost camping area on...

We then only travelled about 50 klm to a lovely rest stop called Birdcage 740 on the Sturt Hwy to Hay for the night. Only one truck came in during the night.

Mar 29, 2015 - Day 63 UPDATE NOTES
Hi All, SORRY LONG ONE So now for a bit of a nostalgic stop - Forbes, where Marco worked in the Commonwealth Bank from July 1967 to Jan 1969. As Anne said many time things would have changed in 45 years and they had, the basics were there but where we thought things were, they were not, maybe the memory is not as good as we thought. It was fun though however unfortunately the gliding club where Marco flew gliders had folded. A trip to a barber answered lotsa questions and apart from getting a haircut information was gleaned so we could find...

Sep 14, 2014 - Day 1
Dear Friends, we travelled 4 hours to get to a farm near Cootamundra. Today we went with our friends to a farm where there are lots of crops and plants. It was Barley, Canola and Wheat. We saw cows and had a ride on the back of a ute standing up. We saw the shed where sheep got sheared. We saw HUGE trucks. We got to feed a sheep dog and it liked to jump around. We rode a quad bike when we were about to go. We travelled 2 hours to get to our cabin. On the way to our cabin we saw a beautiful sunset that set under the grass and crops. Then a...

Jul 20, 2012 - Narrandera
We took a little detour in to Mirrool. This is where they hold the annual Silo Kick where competitors try to kick a ball over the silos. Sometimes a person wins, sometimes the silo wins. The pub there is a beautiful old one. Apparently it was going to be sold for the licence and local graziers rallied round and bought it. No, we didn't stop for a beer. Narrandera is a small country town with big hospitality. We stayed at the showgrounds for only $15 per night with power and water. Quite a few other caravans were parked there for the night...

Jun 11, 2012 - On the bank of the Murrimbidgee River
For those that have short or long term memory loss, my young daughter T'Ann teaches at Christ Church Grammar School, and is doing a project with her class on our travels. T'Ann asked me to post the odometer readings after each overnight stop as we were travelling. T'Ann, the odometer reading when we left Echuca this morning was 88245kms. After leaving Bendigo on Saturday morning, I rang the couple we met at the coffee shop to confirm that we were still welcome to stay at their property. Short answer, yes. Within 20 minutes of arriving at...

Mar 19, 2007 - Kergunyah, Victoria, Australia
"Just ask for directions at the general store" directed Jo, "they know where we live." We had left the New South Wales coast and were on our way to reconnect with Jo, our African overland tour guide, who was home for a couple of month's vacation. Not only would we be able to see where she grew up, but the route there would take us through the Snowy Mountains and past the highest peak in Australia - Mount Kosciuszko. After leaving Tilba, we had driven until almost dusk. Mindful of the many exhortations not to drive at night (supported by the...
