Dec 27, 2005 - Up, up and away...

Well, we've left Perth now and Gary's family. Think he was a bit sad to go (not seen them in 9 months after all) but didn't well up too much. Said he was being a big softy...ahhhh. We're in Sydney waiting for our flight to Auckland (NZ) and it's been a tiring day. We left Perth Airport at 11.30ish, and landed in Sydney at 6.30...but, only because of the 3 hour time difference, so we're really tired. We were going to take a trip down to Bondi beach for the day, because Gary saw a weather forecast saying it would be 37 degrees here today. It...

Dec 13, 2005 - Flight back to Sydney

We got a taxi to the airport with Team Korea and when we finally made it through security (because I had my cutlery in my hand luggage) we went and had the most expensive cooked breakfast ever but after the late night it was worth it! We boarded our flight and pretty much fell asleep and didn't wake up until we landed in Sydney! We got the shuttle bus to Base hostel where Tricia and Cathy had booked Mel in for the night. We were glad we made it alive as the bus driver was crazy! It was nice to meet up with Tricia again and Cathy wasn't at...

Dec 13, 2005 - Melanie: Alice Springs to Sydney

We had a proper lie-in! Woohoo. Got up at 9am!!!! Got sorted with bags and then bumped into Levin at reception while we were waiting for our taxi. We shared with Team Korea! How weird. Worked out cheap though so it was ok. Well right up until one of them fully shut my leg in the door. Pain or what! Got to Alice Airport and checked in out bags without any problem. They put them in massive plastic bags so you don't have to check them in as oversized baggage. Very handy. Belfast take note! Al had her knife fork spoon combo in her bag so she...

Dec 8, 2005 - Sydney

I've been back in Sydney since the beginning of October, and have started to feel quite settled. But unfortunately my visa has expired and its time to leave before the immigration officers catch up with me! I've been living in Pyrmont, which is only a 5 min walk from Darling Harbour and 10 mins from the city, so quite central. I have been sharing a pretty swanky flat (well swanky for a backpacker!! Fully furnished and comes with gym, pool and sauna etc!!) with 3 girls, 2 English (Zoe + Nikky) and one crazy American, Veronica!!! The only...

Oct 30, 2005 - Rainy day = shopping

The forecasted storms hit Sydney today and the only thing to do was visit the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere, Westfield. We felt surprisingly perky having had not much sleep. Window shopping was the order of the day as the centre was quite upmarket (we had planned to get some more new clothes after our disaster with the washing machine) but aside from Danny's bargain jeans we left empty handed. Toby met up with us in the late afternoon and unable to get Danny in another coffee shop in a 12 hour period we went to Juice...

Oct 28, 2005 - Good Day Mates!!!

Hello Mates! We're here in the great Down Under having NO WORRIES :) Wellll, except for the major sticker shock we're experiencing after having everything so darn cheap in Asia! It's back to staying in hostels and eating at grocery stores, which, when you're here, isn't a bad deal! We're telling you though....if you travel throughout Asia, you'll see AMAZING things and live like royalty! So far the weather here has been AMAZINGLY perfect. We did the major Sydney sights on our first day and toured the harbors and the stunning Opera House...

Oct 20, 2005 - Fraser Island via Sydney and Jo'burg

14 hours after leaving Cape Town I arrived in Sydney not sure of the day or the time! My pal Emma met me at the airport and wow has that changed in the last 15 years, last time I was there it was like a cowshed no sparkle whatsoever... it must have been the Olympics that caused the change... now plenty of duty free and chances to spend cash before hitting the city. Emma and I decided to do a road trip up the New South Wales (NSW) coast to Fraser Island in Queensland visiting the places we both missed when we did our original tours of duty...

Oct 9, 2005 - Australia - Sydney

Sydney, well what can you say everyone knows about the harbour bridge and the opera house, as they are world reknown buildings ! We were staying with a couple we met in Ecuador and we made our way to their place in Darling Harbour. Patrick and Caroline have an apartment in the Goldsborough building and it is very close to city centre. P&C were away but had left a key for us. We had a look around Darling Harbour and after a bite to eat we were very tired so went back for a snooze. In the evening P&C came back and we all went out for a meal...

Jun 30, 2005 - SYDNEY

We drove for 1 and a half days straight, but we finally reached Sydney. When we got 80km's from Sydney, it was pouring rain.................sometimes the rain was soooo hard we couldn't see 100 mtrs in front of the van, SCAREY!!! The night before (when it started to rain), we decided to stay in an On-Site Trailer, because it was just too cold and wet to stay in the van. This Caravan Park was really neat, because she not only kept the place very neat and tidy, but she had a little Toy Village and Train Set, setup right beside the Office that...

Jun 23, 2005 - Sydney
