Oct 9, 2017 - Goolgowi to Forbes

Monday 9 October 2017 The second storm of the day arrived last night with plenty of rain, thunder and lightning, but no wind, so that was good. The locals were probably very happy to hear the rain as the area is very dry. Our drive to Goolgowi was mainly though dry areas, with some patches of green and some healthy crops and animals. No need to rush off this morning, but we still were on the road at 9am. Plenty of water and muddy patches around the park, so it would be our wettest packup in eight weeks, so we can't complain. Unlike...

Sep 26, 2017 - Tasmania Trip 2017

Well I missed making an entry last night, we played a long game of cards with Ann and David. Fun except I came last, Ann won. We traveled down to Forbes, a little different to the itinerary, we evened out the kms so won't have a longer day tomorrow. We are staying at a small park 2 kms from Forbes. Nice country park, Ann and David set up their van under a tree with no leaves as they wanted the sun, after their afternoon rest however, decided the berries falling on their roof would not be good for sleeping at night, so were able to move back...

Tasmania Trip 2017

Sep 16, 2015 - Parkes, Cowra and Forbes.

Stayed overnight in a really lovely caravan park in a little town, Trangie. New owners took over a discarded park in Feb and are doing a super job of getting it up and running, by gutting and removing all old fixtures etc. Ablutions large and spotless, green grass everywhere, free wifi, power and water and $25. Onwards south and we came to the Parkes CSIRO Radio Telescope, star of the movie, The Dish in 2000. As expected, it was immobile for maintenance, our usual luck!! However, we are going to return to see it in action before we leave...

Jan 12, 2015 - On the way home

Late start today - boys slept in. Travelled on from Albury-Wodonga to the small township of Culcairn (about 50kms away) and picked up some bread and morning tea. Headed North to Wagga Wagga before stopping for lunch at Junee (a once bustling railway town). Then on through Cootamundra (birthplace to Don Bradman) to Young before heading north-west to Greenfell (home of Henry Lawson) where we stopped for the boys to have a play. It was only a short drive then into Forbes for the stop for the night. Interesting that all the towns we past...

Dec 18, 2014 - A big drive to Forbes

Early leave from Gundy through to Moree where we stopped for an early morning tea. Through Narribri and Coonabarabran to a lunch break south of Gilgandra. Then on through Dubbo, past the 'Dish' near Parkes to Forbes. Nearly 700kms. Navman wants to take us all the short cuts - making for some 'amusing' times. Forbes is the burial place of Ben Hall the bushranger. Will make a point of coming back through here and stopping on the way back.

Jul 16, 2012 - Forbes

We drove through Parkes but decided to continue on and stay at Forbes for a few days. We would love to stay at every town but you have to make a choice sometimes. The Freedom Camp at Forbes was one of the very best. It's at the end of the main street over a little one-lane bridge and on the banks of Lake Forbes. The area is well mowed, has lots of taps for water and council collects the rubbish most days. Every afternoon an old fellow comes to visit and offers information about the town and caravanning. My cousin Lynette and husband Ken...
