Nov 15, 2018 - Coomealla

15/11/2018. Thursday. Sunny and warm Coomealla We had a relaxed morning - no rush to go anywhere, because we’ve decided to have 2 extra days here. We managed to buy a lovely navy jacket for Ian from the MS Op Shop for $10. On a trip we have planned for next year, Ian needs to wear a jacket and tie to dinner, so now he’s set. It looks like it’s brand new. I tidied up under the bed and took out the children’s Christmas presents we need to leave in Melbourne, plus a few things for Tony & Tam. The empty space has now been taken up with winter...

Nov 14, 2018 - Coomealla - Mungo National Park - Coomealla

14/11/2018. Wednesday. Cloud cover, warm Coomealla to Mungo National Park What a day!! First we were woken just after 1am when the heavens opened and rain bucketed down, accompanied by some loud thunder. This went on for over an hour, and 55ml fell where we are, 50ml at the golf club over the road and 4ml in Mildura. Once woken and shutting all the windows in the van, I lay wondering if we’d be able to do our trip into Mungo National Park, as the road in is subject to rain and bad weather. I went back to sleep, and the alarm woke us at...

Nov 13, 2018 - Coomealla - Wentworth - Mildura

13/11/2018. Tuesday. overcast, some light rain Mlildura After a rather hot night, we woke to a cooler day - well, cooler than yesterday. Even 2 or 3 drops of rain! We had late breakfasts followed by morning tea, and then drove to Wentworth, where we went to the confluence of the Darling and Murray rivers. Because of the cloud cover, it wasn’t the blue and brown where the two met. We must have been very lucky when we saw it some years ago. A visit to the Information Centre, a stroll along the main street then lunch back on the river. After...

Nov 12, 2018 - Coomealla

12/11/2018. Monday. Sunny and hot Coomealla We were up early this morning as we each had to take our cars in for attention and a service. We spent the morning at the Centro Shopping Centre which was on the outskirts of Mildura, and because we were there for some hours, it gave the ladies time to check out all the shops, with only a few purchases made - until it came to Woolworths, when we each only had to buy a couple of items, but they were expensive - it cost me $50+ and as Ian said, all I needed was paper towel! But when he grumbled, I...

Nov 11, 2018 - Coomealla

11/11/2018. Sunday. Hot and sunny Coomealla What a glorious day! We went to the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Mildura which was not huge in numbers, but good. I was a little disappointed at the lack of poppies. Back to our vans where we had a relaxing but rather hot afternoon.

Nov 10, 2018 - Blanchetown to Coomealla near Dareton

10/11/2018. Saturday. Sunny and warm. Blanchetown to Coomealla near Dareton What a beautiful morning! Sun shining, clear sky and comfortable - not too hot; not too cold! After breakfast we started our drive to Mildura, stopping at Renmark for a coffee and cake. Ron did the right thing and had his fruit - an apple slice, and I had my last Kitchener Bun for a long, long time. You can’t buy them anywhere other than in South Australia. We passed a wheat field where we saw about 40 emus, and can only assume that they were eating the grain from...

Mar 24, 2005 - Mildura 24/3-3/4

Returned to our old (and favourite) Mildura & Deakin caravan park. Memories of the 8-10 years we brought the kids up here each year. Found the owners still remembered us from long ago - very good feeling. Visited many of the places we used to go to each year, Wentworth seems a little more seedy, Merbein much the same, aquatic centre larger, old hospital gone, favourite pie shop gone, Drive in gone, Ford dealer changed, new suburbs everywhere, Murray river the same. Very impressive new Information Centre. Most disappointed at the (almost)...
