Dec 4, 2018 - Crescent Head

4/12/2018. Tuesday. Hot, some cloud cover Crescent Head A quiet day. Crescent Head doesn’t have many shops other than a supermarket, chemist, fantastic bakery, 2 pubs/clubs and a few other small shops, so certainly not a place to spend a lot of money. But the beach - what more could you want! We didn’t go down today and give a repeat performance from yesterday - didn’t want to spoil the locals. Today was our day of walks - Hazel and Ron walked early this morning while we caught up on some sleep, and later Hazel, Ron and myself walked to the...

Dec 3, 2018 - Crescent Head

3/12/2018. Monday. Hot Crescent Head Just before 6am must be the time! Bang, bang, bang! We’re wide awake now. Hazel and Ron were luckier, as their young family next door were very quiet. But we all crashed last night, so had a good sleep and were woken to a beautiful morning. After a visit to the Chemist for scripts, we met Hazel and Ron in the water. The beach is only a couple of hundred metres from our vans and is beautiful. The water wasn’t deep but quite gusty waves knocked us over as the sand was very uneven so hard to get a steady...

Dec 2, 2018 - Coopernook to Crescent Head

2/1/2018. Sunday. Hot, hot, hot Coopernook to Crescent Head We all slept in at lovely quiet Coopernook. We didn’t even hear the other vans pull out. We drove on the scenic route to Port Macquarie, a place Hazel and Ron know well and love; a place we’ve only been to twice, the second time with friends Pam & Don. We had breakfast at the Pancake Place and Ian was violently ill 50k or so down the road. Not a good memory for him! Today a learning experience for me and another memory! As we were walking down to the river, 2 elderly ladies with a...

Oct 13, 2017 - Surf's up!

We left Byron Bay this morning. It was such a laid back, hippie town. There were so many more restaurants I wanted to try. Maybe next time. Headed south with a quick stop in Lennox Head for a photo op on the hill side, then retreated to a small little tourist trap of another Australian statue of something huge. This time... a banana. Our final stop of the day... Surfaris. A motel type place within driving distance of the beach. We pulled in, hopped out, grabbed some grub, and changed clothes to go surfing! We get to the beach and got a...

May 18, 2013 - Back where it all started

May 18 - 25 Our final destination on this trip is back where we began at Crescent Head. We have certainly noticed a big drop in temperature particularly overnight. So far Davo has caught a record 55cm flattie here. We will be returning home with a freezer full of fish. Cazza is researching one arm golf, (quite popular in America) and has had a couple of games with Davo as her caddie. It has been a great trip even with the unexpected change of plans. The NT and Kimberley's is just another adventure to look forward to in a few years. Maybe...

Davo and Cazza 2013

Apr 2, 2013 - Ready, set, go!

Left home at 6.15 am, traffic was busy but we had a clean run out of Sydney. First stop Macas at Raymond Terrace for brekkie, then morning tea at Riccardo's strawberry farm where we picked 1/2 kilo of fresh strawberries. Arrived at Crescent Head at 2pm, about 500 km all up. We were set up and out on the stream kayaking by 3.30pm. I caught the first holiday fish, 35cm flattie, and then Davo had to out do me and caught a 48cm flattie, so dinner was organized. Just relaxing now with my arrival beer as I gaze at our view. Bible verse for the...

Oct 12, 2011 - Crescent head

We woke up early so that we could head down to the beach and spend some time in the sun and surf before driving to our next stop for the night. First we went to the little bakery on the corner for some coffee and a croissant for breakfast. Was very nice and small enough to fill the gap but not fill it up. We then went down to the main beach which creates a beautiful bay with the river mouth as it flows into it. It has a little wooden bridge from the caravan park that goes over the water from the parking lot to the beach. Water was very cool...

Oct 11, 2011 - Surfers paradise,6hrs in the car & beginnings of road rage!

Got up early to get ourselves ready and packed to start our journey back to Sydney. We decided to stop off at Surfers Paradise which was about an hours drive outside Brisbane. Got our take away coffee and decided to have ourselves a bit more vitamin D whilst having a walk along the beach. Was a very awesome beach and what looked like a very hip and happening town,a pity we could not stay longer. It is exactly what Durban has the potential to be.  Once our legs were stretched and a bit of energy spent it was time to knock off a few k's to...

Dec 30, 2007 - Surfaris - Byron Bay to Sydney

We headed out of Byron today on a 4 day learn to surf trip, ending up in Sydney. We went to a camp with dorm accomodation and surfed locations from there. It was near Crescent Heads, NSW. The surfing was not so great as there is a tropical cyclone off of the northern coast of Queensland. We had a couple of good sessions and Mike was able to get to his feet. I on the other had made it to my knees and that was success for me. Sorry no picture evidence. We enjoyed New Years Eve at the camp with about 20 other surf students and surf...
