Mar 19, 2018 - Batemans Bay & Surrounds

We had to go to Batemans Bay! However, our experience was not about Steve’s heritage but about weather. It was sunny and 40 degrees with strong winds when we arrived. But the sky was strangely grey. Why? The result of bushfires just south of us in Tathra. (See link: Visit MyTripJournal ). On the day we left, we had heavy rain. This has resulted in serious flooding just North of us in the Hunter Valley. We now realise how vulnerable Australia is to the weather and climate change.

Feb 11, 2017 - The Norwegian Star Adventure

Here we go- the Saga of the Norwegian Star as we lived it or received it second hand from reliable sources.......... Prior to our 21 day voyage from Hong Kong to Sydney we knew 2 ports had been cancelled (Saigon and Bangkok). That was livable but only in light of the other 9 stops and possibly some other compensation. We were offered $200 onboard credit for the inconvenience. For those of you not familiar with the "cruise world" this ship is constantly on the go. Some people on the ship were on the ship all the way south and then back to...

Feb 10, 2017 - Mountains to the Beach - Princes Highway

We decided to head west of Sydney to the Blue Mountains. After wandering through a couple of villages along the way we arrived at Katoomba.which seemed like a pleasant little town with some spectacular craggy cliffs and interesting land formations. We found a quaint home converted to a hotel and an old fashioned room #1! The area was about five degrees C cooler than Sydney due to elevation. Our plan in the heat is stay in the air conditioned Camry driving until early check in , have a nap, then explore late afternoon, early evening. After a...

Feb 20, 2015 - Days 26 - 29 UPDATE NOTES

Hi All, Wollongong was left behind along with all our old playmates as we headed south to another old stomping grounds in our younger days, Jervis bay. We stayed at Huskisson located on the bay and visited old haunts especially Callala Bay where we once had a weekender. We visited an old neighbour Pat and Allen and dropped into the different towns in the bay. We also went to Sussex Inlet, an exciting little town in the 80’s but it seems to have stayed in that era and not developed any further since then, not like the rest of the coastal...

Apr 25, 2014 - Batemans Bay (ANZAC DAY)

Friday 25th April We have decided to do a round trip of about 500kms today, going over to the coast and down a bit, then inland and back up to our caravan. Not a lot to say about today but I will just put up some photos of our trip. We left around 8.30am and first up we went to Bateman's Bay on the coast. We were both impressed with this town, a very pretty town. As we drove through the locals were getting ready for their Anzac parade. From the lookout point, we watched Dolphins play in the Bay, unfortunately no decent photos of this. We...

Oct 3, 2013 - Batemans Bay

10/3/13, Thursday. We drove across Brown Mountain and stopped at Fred Piper Memorial Lookout with a view of the Bega Valley. Along the way we saw a small Echidna at the side of the road. Seeing an Echidna in the wild is apparently a VERY rare sight. So we stopped and took some photos of it. When we approached, it curled up and put its quills out (like a porcupine). We backed off and waited until it unwound and then started to move away. It's snot is like an anteater (which it is also like). It eats small bugs and ants. The next town was...

Aug 31, 2012 - Bateman's Bay

Not too impressed with Bateman’s Bay. First of all, the Information Centre was closed when we went there – found out later it doesn’t open until 11am. And they didn’t have any free maps like every other Information Centre carries. The only ones they had were for sale. The caravan park didn’t like booking vans over 20ft but didn’t ban it like some of the other parks I’ve tried to book in to. We were allowed to choose our site but it was one of the tightest squeezes yet. A lot of the streets around the shopping centre are very narrow but the...

We had a little bit of a drive from Merimbula up to Batemans Bay, we planned to stay originally in another of the BIG4 campsite but on the way we stopped at one of the info sites in Batemans Bay and they recomended staying in a conservation camp called depot beach. It had hot showers so we thoght why not. We got there eventually along a long and winding road and it was really beautiful right by the beach so you could actually hear the rollers. Thats if you could get past the noise of all the parrots, therte were loads of them all colours...

Jan 2, 2011 - Batemans Bay

We arrived and set up in Batemans Bay on the 21st of December for 12 nights, we decided that we would not travel too much and just relax for the two weeks. We drove down to Moruya and had the car serviced and also saw a lot of tree carvings around the town, Batemans Bay does not have any beaches as we know as swimming beaches. We have been out looking at some of the outskirt towns which have been nice, but still not a good location in our opinion, Batemans Bay increases from 18,000 to about 120,000 in the Xmas holidays. These all come from...

21st December. On the road again, we are heading to Bateman’s Bay where we will stay until the 2nd Jan. 2011. We arrived at the caravan park at just after 10am, the park is 9 klms out of Bateman’s Bay it is called Sunhaven there are mainly units with only a few camp and caravan sites, the park itself is very clean and neat, but hardly worth four stars. 22nd December. We did some shopping, I iced the Christmas cake and generally started to get ready for Christmas, Wayne put up the decorations, lights and tinsel on the awning, must admit it...
