The road to Armenia was a shocker and for 70 kms we bounced between one pot-hole to another as well as avoiding on coming traffic doing the same thing. As the ancient cave dwellings at Vardzia were almost on our way to Gyumri, our next over-nighter, we made the slight detour to give them the once over. Once again they were impressive but not nearly as exciting as our border crossing into Armenia a few kilometres further on . Happy Christmas! Today I sit in a friend’s house in Gyumri, the second biggest city in Armenia. I have internet. English music and good company but I find it interesting to reconcile how much I miss being near family, friends, and the comforts of home while still being glad to have the opportunity I have been allowed. By comforts I don’t really mean driving, soft pillows, having internet, being warm on a regular basis, or having a shower every day.
