Mar 16, 2016 - Mi primer viaje a Cordoba

Jul 21, 2014 - life is hard for a gaucho

Argentina's second biggest city has ironically caused Ryan and I to consider dropping it all to become Argentinian cowboys. Our first intro to gaucho living was dinner at the Parilla Raul. There is a reason Argentina is known for their steak! That being said, this place was far from pretentious...first, there are no menus, you just name your cut of meat (for those who are indecisive, there's the "14 meat platter"), and either fries or salad. Then, there's the fine dishware: cutting boards with a little hole in the middle so your steak...

Apr 25, 2012 - Polo and Beef

Arrived Los Paneros around 10pm after a hard day on the road to be greeted by the owner Kevin (he's Argentinian with an impeccable English Accent) who provided wine, cheese and biscuits but many were still hungry so started cooking at 11pm and ate after midnight. the cook group really did a great job considering the time. Got up the next day to a beautiful place with horses wandering around the tents and a couple of great dogs. Got paired up with our horses by height, weight and experience and set off with our saddle bags for a ride to a...

Jan 20, 2012 - Cordoba

Nov 20 to 21 Cordoba Stayed in Cordoba for 2 days. One night all of the museums and art galleries were open for free. Went to one art gallery, couldn't believe some of the stuff on display that was called "art", and then went to a really old colonial building that was converted to a museum. Made a wonderful dinner in our hostel. It was so nice to cook and not go out for dinner. Next day we went to the zoo. Ton of animals to see and we had a really good time. Wasn't much to do in Cordoba so we decided to leave a day early for Mendoza. Took...

Feb 1, 2011 - Alta Gracia and La Cumbre

January 30 I am now in the small mountain town of La Cumbre where I will stay for 2 days. Cordoba is surrounded by lots of little towns in the countryside around it, many of them at altitude because of the Sierras mountains. These are green undulating mountains, nothing like the Andes more to the west. La Cumbre is at 1200 metres. I'm staying at a nice hostel (which even has a pool) but my room sucks. The more I look at it, the more I think it used to be a hallway. But it has its own bathroom (which probably used to be a common bathroom off...

Jan 29, 2011 - Spanish course

This entry details my week in Cordoba studying Spanish. January 24 I started my Spanish course today. I must say that compared to the course I took in Panama last winter, it's a little disappointing. The quality of the teachers doesn't seem as high, and the book they teach with is from Spain (many verb forms from Spain are not used in Latin America) and seems a little lacking. The classes don't have AC (although the lobby does – duh!). And with all this heat (over 35C) my brain is not working very well. I get cranky and annoyed at...

Jan 24, 2011 - Cordoba

January 22 I arrived in Cordoba at 6:30 am on Thursday morning after taking a night bus from Buenos Aires. I managed to sleep on the bus but I was still quite tired for most of Thursday. Fortunately it was overcast so not to hot. I have since discovered that when the sun is out in Cordoba, it's bloody hot, like "in-danger-of-getting-heatstroke-at-midday" hot! I stayed at a hostel near the historical centre on Thursday and Friday night. The city was founded in 1573, but the Jesuits arrived not long after and had a big influence on its early...
