January 20th we were at Hope Bay but were unable to get off the ship since the waters were too icy. We were not too disappointed because as we headed toward Deception Island, there were ice bergs of various shapes, sizes, and colors holding our gaze. Some of the ice bergs in the Antarctic are tabular (tabletop shaped), some are jagged, and some are as large as the state of New Hampshire. Generally, the upper 1//8th of the iceberg is all that is seen. Bob best described our view out the window as a Monument Valley made of icebergs. A...
