Today we woke to another clear, sunny, and warm day. We landed first thing in the morning at Port Lockroy, an anchorage used by whalers and by the British during World War II as a base to monitor any German naval activity in the Antarctic. The station was occupied until 1964, and in the past 10 years an effort has been made to restore it and operate it as a museum .
