Cameron Highlands Tea Plantation

Picking tea

Cameron Highlands and Penang

We decide to escape the heat for a little while and so headed to the Cameron Highlands, which is an old British tea plantation. The area is in the mountainous central area of the Malaysian Peninsula. The cooler temperatures give us a welcome respite and a chance to recuperate for Heidi who has picked up a nasty cold. As well, she popped her knee out. She is recovering nicely now, so no worries. While in the Highlands we had the opportunity to visit the famous tea plantations. They were truly beautiful. The area has also become the agricultural area of Malaysia with many fruits and veggies grown. It came as quite a surprise to us as the drive into the area was around twisting mountainous roads with very few people. After we finished our tours and cooled off a bit it was time to warm up again and visit the west coast island of Penang. We have used the time to map out the next leg of our journey into Thailand and to enjoy the food and warmth.
