NZ's best kept secret...Lake WK

Well, after finally managing to get to Lake Waikarimoana, we decided to do a little walk around the lake itself.

I had found something that looked suitable in our guide bk and off we went. What I had somehow missed was that the walk was'nt actually around the lake but through a lot of the surrounding forest and around another mini lake. So we had spent the best part of 3 days trying to get somewhere, in actual fact not to walk there at all! Guess who was popular! In the end it turned out to be a fun adventureous walk, we spent a a lot of time trying to negotiate the flooded trails by climbing over foliage and jumping over mini swamps. (not with a terribly high sucess rate either!) Our shoes are still recovering!

We still were able to soak in the lake with a campsite on the edge and a great sunset.

Next, 120km of unsealed road back towards the West Coast.

Onto Waitomo...
