|We had great sleep and woke to the TV alarm we had set. We enjoyed the included hotel breakfast buffet.
We purchased our 24-hour tram pass and were dropped near the Westerkirk, around the corner from Anne Frank's hiding place. (Tickets are only available online and I purchased ours two months prior.) The tour was very informative, even for someone who has read a lot prior; an audio tour was included. It was not as heart-wrenching as I expected. Notable were the narrow, steep stairs and the postcards and celeb photos Anne glued onto the wallpaper.
We had lunch al fresco at Cannibale Royale, sharing the charcuterie board. Joe tried the IJwit Netherlander beer; it was light and hoppy.
At the Rijksmuseum we found that the renowned "Night Watch" was being scanned for analysis and only 30% of it was on view, the rest hidden by the scanning machine...We only scratched the surface of the collections.
A mention of the bicycles is required; eveyone rides and there are tens of thousands of them along the way and in bike parks. Theft is said to be rampant.
We returned to Central Station via tram and strolled along the shops. We chose Delirium for dinner (stew made with house bier...fish and chips.
