Coming up on Coulee Dam.

Closer.

This way.

From the back of the dam.

Looking badk from the dam.

A piece of Coulee Dam.

Another part.

And another.

Area below Coulee Dam.

Diana and Marley enjoying the view and stop.

Entrance to Chief Joseph State Park and Dam.

The Chief Joseph dam.

The village outside the park.

These were trees that died and carved.

Next stop, Winthrop WA.

We found a place to park.

That is a restaurant.

Boardwalk and shops.

Lots of traffic.

The other end of town.

More shops.

And still more.

Our goal was to route past Grand Coulee Dam. Had heard about it since we were kids, but never seen it. Now was the time. It was very impressive and our picture taking will not do it justice. They refer to it as electric city for good reasons. There are power lines everywhere. After leaving there and heading down the road, we came upon Chief Joseph Dam that was also impressive in its own right.

When we left Coeur D'alene, we decided it was to far for a one day drive to Whidbey Island, so we picked a mid point for the trip. That point was Winthrop WA. not knowing any more than it had a motel. What we discovered was a very busy little tourist town. If you ever been to Gatlinburg TN. (we have many times) they are a lot alike. Since we were early for check-ln, we drove through town. Or should In say stop in town with traffic not moving. A car wanted out of his space, so we let him out and took his spot. Walked around town and went for Ice Cream, to find out there were at least 25 people in line, so we gave it up. Fortunately we were parked across from an ally. A car did the same thing we did when we got the spot, so we took the advantage and pulled across to the ally, backed out and headed back to the motel.
