North Carolina State Capitol

George Washington statue in rotunda

Roanoke River Lighthouse

You sure don't want me as your gardener. What I said were lilacs turned out to be mountain laurel.

I actually overslept this morning ( that NEVER happens) so I eliminated a stop in Chapel Hill to see the cathedral at Duke University and drove directly to Raleigh. This very simple Capitol Building didn't take long to tour. Except for the George Washington statue in the rotunda there isn't much adornment. I think this makes 40 capitol buildings that I have visited.

Got to Edenton in time to drive to the water and stroll through the park. The quaint downtown has old buildings and most of them are occupied which is nice to see. Felt really good to stretch my legs. Many historic homes all over the downtown area - big, old beauties that are extremely well cared for.

Tomorrow I explore the Outer Banks!
