Meteor Crater near Winslow Arizona

Meteor Crater near Winslow Arizona

We went to the Meteor Crater near Winslow Arizona. 50,000 years ago a broken body of an asteroid traveling 26,000 miles per hour hit the earth . A huge iron- nickel meteorite estimated to have been about 150 feet across ans weighting several hundred thousand tons struck the rocky plain with an explosive force greater than 20 million tons of tnt. It left a bowl shape hole that is700 feet deep and 4000 feet across.

From there we went to Walnut Canyon where the Sinagua ( Spanish for “without water”) Indians found shelter inside the canyon and throughout the pine forest. They made there homes in the cliffs.
