Familiar welcome to Ft. Stockton

Because I have driven I10 East so many times from Tucson to Fort Stockton, I mapped out a few new stops along the way.

Fort Hancock turned out to be a town whose only claim to fame is being mentioned in Shawshank Redemption. Quickly moved on to Van Horn to check out the renovated historic Capitan Hotel. What a terrific little gem in this rather desolate part of Texas. Only turn off was a very loud train passing very close by. Can't imagine that would be welcome in the middle of the night!

A couple of hours later I was greeted once again to Fort Stockton by the beautiful sculpture "Looking to the East". It portrays a small hunting party of Commanches pausing in their search for remaining buffalo.
