Southern Trek with Hazel & Ron travel blog

Last roadwork to complete the Brisbane-Sydney highway

5/12/2018. Wednesday. Warm

Crescent Head to Brisbane

We were up early packing for home.

It was a very pretty drive from Crescent Head to the highway, and a breeze driving on the new double and sometimes triple lane divided highway which will be completed in 2020. We drove for about 2 hours through roadworks which will link the southern section with the northern, before back on a completed section which led to the border. Although the traffic from the coast to home was heavy, it moved freely and we had no holdups, and arrived home about 4.30 - tired but pleased to be home.

It will be amazing when the highway from Brisbane to Sydney is completed. Throughout the 4 states we’ve travelled on this trip, we’ve passed the same road side message - “Survive the Drive....Stop every 2 hours”. Unfortunately, on the new highway, unless you want to go into a town which could be 5-10k away, there are very few places to stop. Previously there were plenty.

Our holiday has been one we’ll remember for many reasons. Hazel and Ron have been great travelling companions and we’ve shared some fun times, ‘interesting’ times and learned a lot from them. Thank you Hazel and Ron!

We’ve had a wonderful ‘last hurrah’ in our caravan, making new memories to add to the old. But we both know that ‘it’s time’, and are ready to pack up, clear out, clean and hand the car and van to its new owner.
