Mamon, our guide, picked us up this morning at 8AM to head toward Karak. The weather was cool and unsettled...it started to drizzle within minutes.
The castle was built in 1142 by the Crusaders and taken over by the Muslims in 1183. It housed around 1000 soldiers in its heyday. Sitting at 1000 metres it gave a wonderful view over the surrounding wadi’s(valley). There was lots of fog and throughout the day we had rain, fog, sun...and it is quite cool.
In fact we missed our hike at the Dana Nature Reserve because it was raining, dense fog and muddy! Mamon suggested we continue on to Petra and go to Little Petra...hoping the weather would cooperate...it didn’t. It was raining buckets...we considered braving the elements but the mud really discouraged us. Hopefully the weather will improve tomorrow for a full day in Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
