|Buonasera from Florence,
On Monday, we went on an excursion to Cinque Terre which is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the region Liguria, in the northwest of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was a very long day (checked in with our tour group at 6:45 am and didn’t return to Florence until almost 7:30 pm) but well worth it. We travelled by bus to Manarola. Then we made our way to Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare by train. After lunch and time for exploring we took a boat to Riomaggiore, a train to La Spezia and then a bus back to Florence. The weather was perfect. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Manarola and Monterossa al Mare were our favourites! When we were in Vernazza where the street was filled with tourists, the “YPO 2018 Supercar Experience” was also there. There was barely enough room for the sport cars to fit down the street!
This morning on our way back from breakfast, Sharon and I found some leather gloves that were calling to us. This particular store makes their products on sight and we had a tour of the workshop. They had some amazing leather goods.
Later we started out on another adventure around Florence. We walked by the Duomo and had our first look at the front of the church. It is beyond spectacular...simply breathtaking. We carried on until we made our way to Galleria dell ‘Accademia where we toured the museum and saw David. Next we headed to Mercato Centrale for a light lunch and wandered through the market. We slowly made our way back to our apartment, taking in the sights and sounds of Florence along the way. Another great day! We’re really enjoying Florence and the food is amazing!
