start of my drive

beautiful overlook

colorful aspens

11,000 ft up and ice still on the mountain

The park was actually crowded today. Lots of cars, lots of people. The aspens are almost bare but there were still enough of them with yellow leaves that made for a spectacular vista. I drove 1/3 of the Trail Ridge Road but when I got out at one of the overlooks at 11,000 feet elevation I knew I could go no further. I spent several hours in the park even though I did not do the entire drive . I did take a small hike to see a forest canyon but I was a huffin and puffin . I am not in shape for this altitude and the wind was ferocious. Elk were all over the place which made for lots of traffic jams on the one lane each way road. I always wanted to visit this national park . I am very glad I got here!

Drove to Laramie Wyoming for an overnight stay and encountered 12 straight miles of fog. I have had more rain, fog, and construction delays on this road trip than on any other I have taken. Late September may not be the best time to take a northern route west.
