Pasta at sea

Today was one of those delightful surprises which make a trip special.

Our bus took us north from Olbia along the coast road,through small towns which are mainly tourist towns, to Palau which is the harbour for the archipelago.

Quickly found our yacht, walked the gangplank, removed our shoes and settled down for a day in the care of Marco and Dennis, two young men who sailed, cooked, chatted and generally looked after us. Motored out then they set the sails and we enjoyed calm sea and remarkably blue waters. Many other yachts out but not the traffic jam that is high summer in the Mediterranean. We moored and Jan took to the clear water while half the team took off in the rubber ducky for a tour around the smaller islands and little bays with clear pale blue water. Then we swapped over and while Dennis ferried us around Marco was in the galley preparing food and once all back on board antipasti with white wine or water was laid out.

While we were polishing this off we sailed further into a bay where Dennis ferried us in the rubber ducky onto the beach and Dallas, Helen and Patty took to the water while the rest us us paddled.

Back on the yacht Marco had been preparing the pasta course and we sailed on eating and drinking as after pasta came fruit platters, then coffee with special biscuits for dipping and eventually a small digestif of a local speciality.

Back to harbour having spent five hours sailing and we were back at our hotel at about six o'clock.

We agreed that this was a special day with perfect weather.
