Buonasera from Italy,
We arrived safely in Rome and survived the taxi ride from the airport to our hotel!
Yesterday evening after meeting our tour guide Catarina and our fellow tour mates, we headed out for a walking tour of the neighbourhood around our hotel. Then we headed across the Tiber River and continued our walking tour through Trastevere. Along the way we had some training on how to be safe on the narrow cobblestone streets...always be on the look out for cars and motorbikes. They come out of nowhere and you always have to be watching for them. Rome is busy. It’s different from anything we’ve ever experienced. However it does have something about it that makes it appealing. At the end of our walking tour we ended up in a lovely restaurant in Trastevere where we all enjoyed a wonderful dinner together. All of the food was amazing but the pasta was especially delicious!
This morning after breakfast we headed to the Capitoline Museum. Our local guide Francesca gave us an amazing tour which we really enjoyed. Then she led us on a walking tour through the Jewish Ghetto. All in all it was a very good morning.
The weather has been sunny and hot. However we did have a short rain shower at the end of our morning tour. Cobblestones are quite slippery when wet...so extra caution had to be taken on the way back to our hotel.
This afternoon we visited the Emmanuel II Monument. After several flights of stairs you then get to a point where you can take an elevator the rest of the way to the top. The views of Rome are amazing!
Lots of walking and stair climbing today. We should sleep well tonight!
