Buddha Head in tree roots

Modern temple

Long boat on the river

We went on a big adventure today to a place called Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World heritage site full of temple ruins. It was a 2 hour train trip (3rd class with the locals :) from Bangkok in 30 degree heat with 84% humidity. Phew. Worth it though. We hired bikes when we got there and just rode around the different sites then jumped back on the train to Bangkok.

Am just adding this in for my records if anyone ever wants to go there as it’s a bit of a hike....

. From the Ratchaprasong (downtown) area catch the BTS (Skytrain) from Chit Lom to Mo Chit (ask for ticket to Chatuchak Park when returning).

. Exit station, cross over on overhead bridge where the busses are and enter MRT station. Catch the train to Bang (pronounced ‘Bung’) Sue.

. Exit Bang Sue and catch the country train to Ayutthaya. 10.04 arr 11.27 - 14 baht each (that’s .57c). Returned 4.37 arr 6.12 - 20 baht.

When at Ayutthaya dodge the taxi and tuk tuk drivers and walk straight across the road to the market. You can hire a bike there (100 baht each) but you have to put it on the long boat and cross the river (10 baht each). Better to hire a bike when you get across the river.
