Our trip to Versailles didn't turn out the way we expected. Firstly, one of the trains we were supposed to catch was cancelled because someone had left an unattended package or bag which had to be attended to (we understand it turned out to be nothing serious). We were redirected to another train line which caused some confusion as we tried to link up with another train heading towards Versailles. We eventually got there only to find that the palace was closed for the day due to industrial action. We had bought tickets on line before leaving Australia and were advised we will need to pursue our refunds on-line. Luckily, we had also bought tickets for the Musical Fountains Show in the gardens of the Palace and this was unaffected. We had a lovely afternoon in the gardens enjoying the fountains which only operate three days a week. There are 77 hectares of formal French gardens with 600 water features so had a lot of ground to cover. It was a perfect day weather wise - fine and mid twenties.
