|So It begins, well almost! We got away from home at around 1030 and headed for Burwood Hwy. Trundling along Commercial Road Ferntree Gully, not even a kilometre from home when a vehicle going in the opposite direction managed to hit their mirror against ours. Only slight damage for us, the bottom lens shattered. Don’t know about the other vehicle as they didn’t stop. Some people who saw it said they lost their mirror altogether. Hope it costs them a fortune to replace! Once over that shock we got going proper. Making good time up,the Calder Hwy we decided against stopping at Calder rest area for coffee and get more k’s under the wheels. Traffic was good, not too heavy and we arrived at Marong around 1300. Parked outside the milk bar/Cafe and I was asked the question, where is your wallet? Now you can get all your mirth out of the way now. It is at home sitting on the bench, 200 k’s and two hours away. Rosemary tried to blame me but I was having none of it. She must have placed it where I couldn’t see it. That’s my story anyway, you can all think what you like! We were only 200 metres from the Marong CP. So we pulled in and grabbed a site, quickly unhitched and headed back to Ferntree Gully. Four hours, four hundred k’s and a tankful of diesel we are back in the caravan. It has been one of the most exciting, torturous beginnings to a trip we have ever had.
