May 7, 2018 – Lima, Peru to Houston to Aransas Pass, Texas
Richard, Susan, Gerhard, Coleen and I shared a cab to the airport. Because of the big traffic jam last night, we scheduled the cab for 8. He was early so we actually left about 7:45. By 8:15, we were at the airport. There was no line that early so we were through with check-in by 8:25. Then, it was through the security where there wasn’t a line either. I said goodbye to them and went to the United lounge for business class passengers where I had a bite to eat and enjoyed just sitting quietly. When it was time to board the plane, there was another security check. They opened both my carryon bags, and they were opening everyone’s so they weren’t picking on me. One man was complaining, but I didn’t care. I’d rather they did the extra check than not and then have an incident on board.
We took off on-time at 12:35 a.m. They served supper which I hadn’t expected, and I couldn’t eat very much of it. After supper and a Bailey’s Irish Cream, I went to sleep and slept until they served breakfast which didn’t amount to much – some fruit and a croissant.
I arrived at 7 a.m. in Houston. By the time I cleared customs and passport control, collected my luggage and made my way out of the terminal, it was almost 8. I couldn’t find my cell phone so I used a pay phone to call Comfort Suites for pickup. I waited an hour and finally took a cab there. The taxi driver put the luggage in the car for me.
I headed to McDonalds to get an iced tea – it was near the motel. Then, I filled up with gas and began the drive to Aransas Pass. It was almost 10 by then. I stopped at Buckees in Wharton to get more iced tea. I made it home at 2. I ran the slides out and got the AC going before I sent a couple of quick emails to let folks know I was home and then collapsed for 3 hours.
After my nap, I got the water hooked up so I could take a shower. Then, I managed to get the 2 smaller cases unpacked, but no phone was found. Tomorrow, I’ll try to get more unpacking done.
Even though I had a nap, I’m making an early night of it.
